CHAPTER 43:
A HOSPITAL VISIT
Bella roused from her sleep, hearing a soft breath nearby. She slowly opened her eyes. White, crisp sheets wrapped around her legs. A sharp headache penetrated down into her neck muscles and her body felt like lead. Her right wrist was bandaged but the stabbing pain caused her to wince. What the hell! Looking around, a vase of flowers sat by her bedside and a large window let in glaring sunlight. She was in a hospital. The smell of disinfectant and footsteps in the distance was further evidence she wasn’t at home. Or maybe she was dreaming.
A short woman carrying a stethoscope around her neck waltzed in with a warm smile. She had the muscles of a weightlifter. Taking a clipboard from the edge of the bed, she approached Bella. “How are you doing, honey?”
