1 Harry Benson woke with a start. Sitting bolt upright in bed, his eyes darted around the dark bedroom for some clue to what had woken him. When the sound of breaking glass reached him, he realised what it was that had disturbed his sleep. Worried that someone was breaking into the surgery downstairs, he threw back the covers and got to his feet. He was about to head out of the room when common sense overtook him. Turning back to the bed he shook his wife awake, which took some time as she was blessed with the ability to sleep through virtually anything. “Honey, I think someone’s trying to break into the surgery, call the station and see if someone can come out.” A nod of his wife’s head, and a weary wave of one hand, was all the acknowledgement he got, but he accepted it.
