Everything was now heading in a whole different direction since Martin dropped out of school. Martin is now a young man who has known only one side of life and this was suffering. It reached a time where he even thought of quiting and giving up on everything but he kept on pushing because of her loving and caring mother whom she didn’t want to disappoint because Lillian didn’t want to believe she had raised a looser all along despite her worsening situation.
Grace on the other side was was also the true difinition of a godsend helper who did everything in her power not to let Martin suffer alone. She felt so attached to the two and her herself had nothing else to run to despite the care of her own younger sister, she thought that she had a connection with Martin and Lillian and this will later come to be realized in future in a manner that is so bizarre and shocking.
Martin’s mom saw herlife in her bedroom as an endless pain but she was always a strong woman who had passed through a lot and new how deep she could go just to hold on and stay strong at all times. She had to spend all her days indoors and fed either by her son or Grace.
One evening Grace prepares meals for the three of them and Martin is not yet home. She serves Lillian as she eats besides her silently. Darkness started falling and Martin is not yet home. Lillian could hardly sleep realising that this was unusual and kept her eyes open at all times and waited for her son.
Grace sat in the living room passing through some books that were Lillian’s favorite. Immediately, it starts raining outside and darkness covers everywhere outside and Grace is also filled with fear and panics about Martin’s where bouts. She notices a picture and a note in one of the books she was reading and take it to have a look she sees young and beautiful Lillian and her husband Mr Jackson besides her with his hand on her shoulder,it was at this particular moment she realized Lillian’s husband had passed away 20 years ago. She then opened the wrapped piece of paper and realized it was a doctor's note that was send back on the days containing contents of Lillian’s barrenness and to her surprise she came to realise that Lillian was not able to bare any child. Suddenly the door opens and poor Martin throws himself in heavily rained on and looked wasted.
Martin stands next to the door for some moments and tears were visible in his eyes. Grace closed her book and suddenly ran to him and held his hands and asked him what was wrong.
“I tried to plead with them but they could not listen to me?” Martin replied while emotionally sobbing.
“What is it Martin, talk to me?” Grace went on pleading with him.
“It’s the store owners, they closed fown our restaurant because of the accumulated rent that had not been paid”Martin answered as he sat down.
Grace too could not believe this, how were they going to survive. She sat down and as she wondered how their life would become. She later had to break down the news to Lillian who was not asleep until the moment she saw Martin. Martin went besides her mother’s bed and assured her that he will never stop trying.
Next morning, Martin leaves very early and tells grace that he is off to look for any job since he could not sit home crying for what they could no longer change. He starts walking round barber shops and other hotels asking for any cleaning job but he gets none. Hewalks all the day long and eventually finds a one time job and he was poorly paid. He decided to go home in the evening and brought some food with him with all the money he was paid. That night, he had to go hungry since the food was not enough for the three of them so he left her Mom and Grace have it.
The next day he woke up early again and begun his job hunting while checking in every single shop and most of the people turned him down. Martin decides to take a rest outside one of the busiest bank which was well decorated with expensive portraits and pieces of art in the city, after several hours of job searching. One of the banks security guards notices Martin and heads towards him.
“Hey young man! This is not a place for the lazy, can you find yourself somewhere better to continue laying your miserable body!” He shouted angrily.
Martin decided to stand up and go on with his journey but before he could get up the security guard hit him hard on the back with the bat he was holding sending him back to the floor.
“Get up you moron, you’re better of dead, what takes you too long to stand up” he shouted again while enjoying the scene. Martin struggles to his feet in pain and as the security guard once again tires to hit him, he raises his left hand blocking away the bat which hoes shattering the glasses surrounding the bank and breaking one of the most expensive portraits that cost a fortune to the bank. The security guard immediately holds on Martin and slaps him hard. He takes out his cuffs and cuffs him and drags him into the bank for punishment. Martin bleeds from the bats impact and groans painfully.
Before they could enter the bank, an expensive car stops by and takes a lot of attention of the passerby’s. The security guard immediately drops Martin and runs for the door as two other guards come from the car. A young lady comes out of the car and she was dressed in expensive clothes and had dark shades on her. She quickly starts walking to the bank but she notices Martin outside and stops.
“Martin! Is that you?” She asked while taking out her glasses.
Martin stares for a while and notices Winnie, her childhood friend whom they had a lot of memories with her.
“Come with me” Winnie said as she walked in.
Martin miraculously stood up stumbling and followed Winnie smiling at the guards forgetting all the pain he was going through.
