We arrive at the pack house and Harris marches straight through the door, confidently. We follow him, then I'm confused, he's staring weirdly across the room. What I say, almost bumping into him.
"Look" he says, I follow his line of sight. It's my parents... And my brother... Lovely. I just haven't had enough confrontations today have I?
Sassy, my wolf remarks in my head. I look over to Celia who looks ashamed and scared.
She should never be ashamed of who she is!
"I won't let them hurt you." I whisper to her.
Harris strides up to them.
"Harris!" his mother states over dramatically, " We were worried" she claims, "We thought you were with..." she stops, spying me over his shoulder, "her..." she scowls. And I growl deeply, I take Celia's hand and walk over with my head high, my bare feet padding softly on the cold floor with every step.
My parents stand, leaving Harris' father the only one seated.
I stare at him curiously, why is he not standing like the others, I'm beginning to wonder if he sympathises when he stares straight back at me, knocking my gaze aside.
"Cara." My mother's shrill voice sounds. "Remove yourself from the company of that bitten."
I scowl and bite my tongue to stop myself being uncivil, then I clench my fist as anger surges and my mother speaks again.
"Cara, get over here, get away from that dirty, bitten."
"Mother." I say forcefully, "Don't insult her" I warn.
"What?" she shrieks. "What did she infect you with?!"
I growl, "Be quiet" I insist, "Do. Not. Insult. My. Mate!" I demand severely.
"Cara!" My father shouts angrily, "What are you saying?!"
"Exactly what you heard!"
"I heard my daughter telling me she betrayed me! Telling me she betrayed our family!"
"Betrayed you?!" I scream, tearing up. "You think I. Betrayed. You?!" I laugh, then tears are streaming down my cheeks.
My father towers darkly over me, "Cara! You. Are not a lesbian!"
"Yes I am dad." I begin to plead.
"Carl." Harris' father, sighs calmly, "She can't help who she is..." My father turns to him, outraged.
"You're telling me how to raise my daughter... When your son-"
"I've been where you are right now, and I regret what I said. You have only one chance at this, don't destroy any remaining relationship you have with your daughter." I can see the sadness in his eyes as he speaks, I can tell he is being sincere. Celia places an arm around me and I instantly feel better. My parents take one look at us and walk away, I see a glimpse of a tear in my father's eye, it gives me hope that he will show kindness and try to reconcile.
My brother looks over at me, then at Cara. "You're both?"
I nod, and Cara looks down at the floor, remembering her crush on him I begin to feel jealous and protective. I step towards my brother challengingly, then, surprisingly...
He hugs me. "I love you Cara, I'm glad you have someone you can be happy with."
He addresses Celia, "Can we talk?" He asks kindly, then he jokes, "We need to set some ground rules, you should know... If you ever hurt my sister---" they walk away and their voices fade, I trust my brother to look after Celia, and there are important things to discuss.
Meanwhile, Harris' mother tries to begin a rant at his father about his earlier statements. I cut them off.
"I know this is hard, but, there are more important things at hand. They concern your son." I say apologetically. " He is bitter, and sad. He wanted to be alpha, and by outcasting him, his passion for leadership has gone sour... I believe he will do something radical now that he has displayed his true character to me."
"You've seen my son?" Harris' mother whispers.
"As have I, mother" Harris inputs forlornly.
"What?" she sounds terrified. I screw my eyebrows, perplexed.
"Michael... Michael was... He was always destined to. To well, try and mass murder the pack. We knew since the Goddess gave us his name, it all fits" I frown at her. "It's in every lore of our pack, we tried to hide it, to treat him as normal, but every day that passed it showed through. He was an evil boy all the while!"
I slap her, "No one is born evil!" I boom, "No wonder he turned out alone, with such judgmental, horrid parents. Everything he did wrong you took as a sign of his so called evil showing through. And now! Now, because of your mistakes, your lore will become reality... Well done. Well done to both of you." I smirk. Harris scowls at me as I scold his parents, but does not intervene, hebknows I'm right.
"Harris, we need to look at the lore" I say.
"It says he will attack with an army, an army of rogues, trained from birth to defeat the ones who are within packs." Harris' dad tells us, it's quicker than studying lore, so I'm glad he spoke up, but the way he treated Michael grates with me so I don't reply, "Prepare the pack." I instruct Harris. He nods and walks out.
"Funny." His mother jeers, "You're no alpha. Haha, but you seem intent on leading the situation." Then she struts out of the room, leaving me alone with Harris' father.
"Tell me everything you know about the lore..." regretfully, it usually is right.
