After a long night of mixed emotions; tears for the memories Michael and I shared, then smiles for the billionaire contact at hand, I finally slept off and woke up to the loud blaring of my phone ringtone. I fell back on the bed when I saw that the call was from Michael. He thinks I'm a fool which he can toy about at will… damn it… I actually was.
After a while of persistent ringing, I answered the call and put it on speaker before placing the phone back on the bedside lamp cabinet.
“Where are you?” He roared angrily.
“What do you mean by where am I? I'm at home…”
“Liar,” he cut in. “Here I was, about to do away with the spy I paid to watch you, thinking I could trust you.”
“Did you just say spy?” I sat up on the bed. “You paid someone to interfere with my privacy, Michael?”
“And you've just proven it wasn't a waste of time. I wouldn't ask you again. Where were you last night?”
“You being a cheat doesn't mean everyone else is?” I hung up.
The audacity!
Why didn't his spy tell him that I caught him in his own mess?
My stomach grumbled and I got off the bed. I had some leftover sauce in the freezer, so I just had to prepare pasta to eat with it.
The house door unlocked and Ice walked in with the tote bag she had left with.
“Going somewhere?”
“No,” I answered without sparing her another glance.
“Why then are you dressed like you are?”
“You know,” I dropped the pasta on the kitchen slab and walked towards her. “I think I'm going somewhere. Somewhere, far away from the relationship you have with Michael.”
She paused. “What's that supposed to mean?”
“Ice, I begged you to spend the night with me but you bluntly turned me down.”
“If it's about that, I'll make it up to you. I promise,” she smiled.
Yeah… I'm now a certified comedian to my best friend.
I pushed her back as she made to walk past me. “You left me and went to spend the night with my man.”
She smiled, putting her bags on the floor.
“Priscilla, you pushed me because of a man,” she stated, looking me right in the eyes.
“ My man, Ice!” I yelled. “Same Michael you warned me against three years ago!”
“What is all this about, Priscilla?”
“I saw you, frolicking and smiling with Michael at his place last night.” My tears began to gather
She batted her lashes and looked away.
“Now you've seen he isn't good enough for you.”
“You seduced him,” my voice lowered.
“I didn't tell him to lie to you, though.”
I squatted as the tears watered down my cheeks. “Ice how could you?”
“Since you've already found out, I don't think there'll be a better moment to tell you to leave my house.”
“Which house?” I snapped. My tears ceased as I stood upright. “Same one I accommodated you in?”
“It's Michael's right?” She threw herself on the couch. After moments of digging into her bag, she pulled out a file and handed it to me with a straight face. “He gave it to me the moment I told him about our baby.”
I pulled out the document from the file and read inaudibly, “Transfer of House ownership from Mr. Michael Kane to Miss Ice Sebastian”
I shook my head in disbelief.
“This can't be true. Ice what have you done?” I yelled. “Where's my mum going to stay after she gets discharged from the hospital? Where would Emjay live when he returns from school?”
“None of the things you mentioned sounded like my problem,” she stretched out on the couch. “I would have let you stay here for a while, at least to take care of me and my baby, but you lost your veto power the moment you pushed me.”
“You're carrying Michael’s child… My Michael.”
“He's not yours anymore. I'd advise that you get your garbage and get out. Michael will be here soon and he wouldn't be as nice as I am. You already made him angry by showing up last night at his residence unannounced.”
Something wasn't right.
“His spy told him that too?” I sniffed.
She laughed. “Poor Michael. I told him to go straight to the point and break up with you. There's no spy. Maybe he just made it up to get you to break up with him and not vice versa.”
“Cowards!” I threw the documents at her and walked away.
“Don't steal any of my things!” She yelled from the couch.
I scoffed.
“You know what, f**k you both!” I grabbed my car keys and purse and left the house.
I sat in the car for a while, reflecting on the number of losses I have faced in less than twenty-four hours. All I have left is my family and this car, which I won in a driving competition. My stomach grumbled again and I ignited the car engine so I could drive to a restaurant, but I ended up driving to the countryside.
I needed a way to ease my tensed spirit and driving did a little relief.
I kept on accelerating, not wanting to slow down or stop. I just wanted to step on the pedals and go on and on but my chest began to tighten and I remembered… I had someone who could get me my inhaler even though it was right there with me…
