Aurora stood frozen in the hallway while Keal continued staring at the message in his hand Return from where she finally asked Keal looked at her but his expression remained impossible to read I do not know yet Then find out Aurora answered Her voice was steadier than she felt I have spent my entire life being told that I am weak and useless If there is something about my past that everyone has been hiding from me then I deserve to know Keal studied her for a long moment You are not going anywhere tonight Aurora frowned You cannot decide that for me I can when someone has already entered my territory looking for you Aurora stepped closer Then teach me how to protect myself The guards exchanged surprised looks Keal's eyes narrowed slightly You have never been trained properly I know Then what I am ready for Keal said nothing Aurora walked back into her room and closed the door She leaned against it and released a slow breath She hated being told what she could and could not handle Especially after spending her entire life being treated like she was incapable of making decisions She walked toward the table and stared at the black folder Keal had warned her not to open it Which only made her more curious Aurora reached for it Then stopped For once she decided to listen She placed it inside the drawer and locked it Outside her room footsteps moved through the hallway Aurora looked toward the door She expected Keal to leave the estate and investigate the intruder Instead the footsteps stopped directly outside her room The door opened slightly Keal stood there You are still awake Aurora crossed her arms You are still watching me Keal almost smiled but quickly hid it I am making sure you are safe Aurora raised an eyebrow That sounds like watching me Keal shook his head and walked away Aurora watched him disappear down the hallway Something about him was strange He was cold and distant but whenever danger appeared he was always the first person to stand between her and it She did not understand him And she definitely did not understand why her wolf became restless whenever he was nearby The next morning Aurora woke before sunrise For a few seconds she forgot where she was Then she remembered everything Moonridge Keal The folder The message Her father's secret She got dressed and walked downstairs The house was unusually quiet She expected to find servants everywhere but the estate seemed almost empty Aurora followed the sound of voices until she reached the training area Keal was standing in the center of the room wearing simple black training clothes Several wolves stood around him Aurora stopped at the entrance Keal looked at her You are early You said training starts today I did Aurora walked inside One of the wolves looked at her and laughed quietly She heard him Apparently you are not going to last five minutes Aurora turned toward him Would you like to test that theory The room became silent Keal looked at Aurora for a second Then he looked at the wolf Leave The wolf immediately stopped smiling But Alpha I said leave The wolf bowed his head and walked out Aurora looked at Keal I could have handled him I know Then why did you stop me Because your first lesson is not fighting Aurora frowned Then what is it Control Keal stepped closer Your wolf has been suppressed for years Aurora looked confused I never suppressed her You did Keal reached into his pocket and pulled out a small silver object This was found in the records belonging to your old pack Aurora stared at it What is that A seal Her heart began racing What does it do Keal looked directly into her eyes It was placed on you when you were six years old Aurora stepped backward No That cannot be true I remember being sick when I was six I was told it was just a fever Keal's expression hardened It was not a fever Aurora suddenly felt dizzy She grabbed the edge of a table Memories began rushing through her mind A dark room Her father's voice Someone crying A silver light Then a strange voice whispering her name Aurora Aurora closed her eyes Stop Keal immediately moved toward her What are you seeing I do not know She pressed a hand against her head I remember something What My father Keal waited Aurora opened her eyes He was holding me He looked frightened Then someone came into the room Who I do not know But I remember what they said Keal's expression changed What did they say Aurora stared at him They said the child must never awaken Silence filled the training room Keal's eyes darkened Aurora your father was not protecting you from the pack He was protecting the pack from something inside you Aurora could barely breathe What am I Before Keal could answer every light in the training room suddenly went out A loud alarm echoed through the estate The guards rushed toward the doors Someone had breached the outer gates Keal immediately moved in front of Aurora Stay behind me Aurora looked toward the dark hallway A familiar scent suddenly reached her Her wolf reacted instantly She knew that scent It belonged to someone from Moonridge Then a voice echoed through the building Aurora Vale Come home Aurora's heart stopped Keal's eyes became cold Nobody moved The voice came again Your pack has been waiting for you Aurora looked at Keal He looked back at her And for the first time Aurora realized that whatever had been hidden from her was much bigger than she had ever imagined
