CHAPTER 4

1078 Words
Bella's Pov I woke up to the sweet smell of coffee. It had forced me into consciousness as I was very hungry and my wounds had healed which meant that I needed to replenish myself. The day before Carl hit me, I hadn't even had anything to eat and I was very hungry as a result of this. I opened my eyes and tried to sit up as I wondered where the smell was coming from. Although I could smell the food in the kitchen from my room, it wasn't always this strong and it felt that the smell was scoring from beside me but I was unwilling to believe my luck as I didn't think anyone would care enough to get me that. “Oh my God! You're awake. Thank God, I was so worried,” Damian said, placing his head on my lap out of worry. Seeing how much he was concerned about me made me feel I was not alone in this world. Damian was different and I knew that he wasn't going to turn out like Carl. All of a sudden, I began to hear heavy footsteps. I could tell who it was. We both could tell who it was. Carl was back and I was in a lot of trouble again. From the pace of his footsteps and his breathing, I could tell that he was very disturbed about something. I looked at Damian and saw that he was also scared. Whenever Carl was angry, he often said hurtful things to everyone and he was not to be related with. “Impossible,” Carl screamed angrily as he broke a pillar with his fists. That was the last thing I needed, he was disturbed about something and I was going to suffer the brunt of it again. I stared at Damian, he was terrified and I was not happy to see him in that way. I decided I would try to calm him down in whatever way I could even though I was terrified myself. “Hey, calm down. It's okay Damian. Everything is going to be okay. Just believe it will be okay and you can overcome anything,” I said, holding his hands and trying to calm him down. Damian turned his gaze back to me and removed his hands from mine before getting up from the bed and looking at me with his eyes full of terror. “No, I don't believe you. You're going to be in a lot of trouble when he walks in. Don't tell me everything is going to be all right if you ain't have the power to back your words. Big bro is going to come in here and maltreat you again and there's nothing you're going to be able to do about it,” Damian said, causing my face to flush in pain. Damian's words had hit me where it hurt the most and I was very amazed by it. How he spoke was not like someone his age. “Damian don't be like that, please,” I begged, trying to get to him one last time. “No,” he responded and pursed his lips before moving away from me. Damon was scared I could tell that much from the look on his face and the aura he exuded. However, what shocked me was that he believed I was weak because it was simply the truth. I opened my mouth to speak but stopped when I heard the footsteps again. This time, it was far louder than before and I was sure that he was headed straight for my door. The door opened and he walked in clad in his armor. Carl was stunning and I was once again intrigued by how someone who looked so good could be such a monster. Carl's eyes searched around the room and finally stopped when he gazed at me. I was sure that I was going to get it now. “Big brother, welcome,” Damian said, hugging Carl. I gasped in fear, hoping he was not going to do anything bad to him. Carl looked at Damian with the same bloodshot eyes before raising his hands above his head and placing them down to pat him gently. My beating heart was sure to be noticed by his supernatural senses and I was sure that he knew I was worried about Damian. “Go to your room. I and Bella have a lot to discuss. Someone is going to have to pay for their actions,” Carl said, looking down at me with murderous intent. I was confused, wondering what I did wrong this time. In the past, Carl never needed a reason to do evil to me but now that he had one, I was in a lot of trouble. Damian broke away from Carl and gave me a last look of sympathy before leaving. Immediately I lost sight of him, Carl slammed the door shut. “Carl, I have no idea what you feel I have done but I can assure you that I’m innocent of it,” I said, with pleading eyes. “Oh, you feel you're innocent, huh? You backstabbing i***t. How can this be? “I have no idea what I have done wrong,” I replied. At this point, I was sweating profusely and the fire in his eyes did nothing to solve matters. “Lies, it's sorcery. It has got to be sorcery. You're responsible for this. You did this on purpose. If this is your way of paying me back, I can assure you that it will fail,” Carl said. I was very confused by these words. It seemed like she was very disturbed and I hadn't the slightest idea what was wrong. I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. I simply stared at him and waited as my words were along on deaf years. Suddenly, Carl began to approach me. His eyes were yellow and his teeth were sharp. This was the beginning of another nightmare for me. “You i***t. You cursed me. There is no way in hell that my long-awaited mate is you of all people. It's a horrendous lie and I'm sure you have a hand in it,” Carl said, grabbing me and raising me with one hand. I gasped in horror as his words bothered me far worse than the current predicament I was in.
