Bella's Pov
I sat up and faced him with my chin high as he had ordered. I acted that way when he walked in. It wasn't Carl but it was his younger brother Damian.
Damian was his younger brother and was as much of an animal as his elder brother or worse. It wasn't common for kids of his age to behave that way and I could tell that he was only being that way because he wanted to be like his elder brother.
I still remember when he was born and his younger years. Damian would always come to see me and he was my only source of joy as It gave me great pleasure to read my books to him.
Damon was the only one who could understand the solace I felt in reading my books. However, everything changed gradually as he saw me get hurt by his elder brother constantly.
Eventually, he began to feel that he was above me and his brother didn't help matters as he began to command me and threaten me by saying he would report me to his brother.
It was what Carl had told him to do and I could tell that he was only being mean to emulate his brother because of how much respect he received.
“I see that you're already used to how you should act when you face me Omega. I'm going to be the second most powerful warrior soon. Once my brother is Alpha, I'll be number two in the pack,” he said, getting closer and shutting the door.
I smoked at his naivety. Although the direct relatives to the Alpha were sure to become great warriors most of the time, it doesn't necessarily mean that they would become the second greatest or second most powerful.
It was a concept I was too aware of as my father who had been the Alpha’s brother had not even been among the top five even with how powerful he was said to have been.
“I'm sure you will. Will you have a seat so I can read you a story?” I asked, gesturing for him to come sit beside me like old times.
Damian gasped, wondering why I was being so nice to him like things were the same between us. Even with his much trouble he had caused me, I didn't feel any hatred for him as I could see his insides and could tell that he was still that same boy who I loved dearly.
Damian held his fists and shut his eyes tightly as if he could decide between listening to me or not. I kept my gaze on him in hopes that he would listen to himself.
However, as soon as his mother appeared at the four I was sure that all hopes of him sitting with me were gone as he was not going to disobey his mother for any reason.
“Well, well, well. What do we have here? A mere Omega is trying to command a future warrior of our pack. Isn't that absurd?” she asked, placing her hands on Damian and kissing him on his head.
I bit my lip in anger as I watched her try to strip away the little humanity he had left in him. Although she was his mother, it didn't make matters any better.
“Run along now,” she whispered sweetly while she tapped him on the back.
Damian sighed and ran outside, and after he was gone, she turned her gaze back to me and it appeared she had changed completely.
“Don’t go trying to make it look like he's your brother. You only have yourself and yourself alone. You're all alone in this world. The weird relationship you once shared was a mistake that was caused because of his youthfulness and ignorance,” she said, with a smirk.
I scoffed after hearing those words. Why exactly was he talking about? Damian was nothing like Carl and I could tell that he did not like the lifestyle he was living now.
It was clear from his aura that he was far happier when he only had to worry about getting enough time with me to be able to hear me read the stories to him.
She could see it too and yet she was choosing to ignore that fact and act like the douche that she was.
I wanted to tell her that so badly. If only I had my powers, I would be able to speak freely without fear.
Several times, I had prayed to the moon goddess for a wolf. I didn't mind if it was not powerful enough or if I was not able to win any battles with it.
All I wanted was to be able to regain my voice and that was what I needed to see that happen. However, my prayers fell on deaf ears and I was not granted my wishes.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered with my head bowed in respect. It was useless as I was sure she could tell that I was neither sorry nor did I agree with her opinions on the matter.
The power we possessed was supposed to be advantageous but to me, it had proved to be more of a disadvantage than a strength as asmembers of the family could tell my emotions too.
It was the reason why Damian was drawn to me. He could tell that I loved him more even without me saying any words to him.
Consequently, Carl was also able to tell that despite all the things he had done to me, he had not managed to break my fighting spirit.
It was the reason why he hurt me consistently, even when I had passed out. It was because he could never manage to break my spirit and he could see that I still didn't fear him as a person.
“You know your words do not mean anything to me. Try your best to stay away from Damian and let him grow into the man he was meant to be. This is not advice or request, that's a threat,” she said, walking out of the room and giving me a devilish look.
All of a sudden, I began to feel a strange sensation in my chest. It was a sign that I was being summoned and I had no idea where it was coming from.
I held my chest in pain as I fell to the ground and whimpered in pain. Suddenly, my eyes became dark and I passed out.
