Chapter 8: Unraveling the Mystery
As I lay in the hospital bed, contemplating the words of Nurse Beth, a whirlwind of questions swirled in my mind. What made me different from other half-breeds? How had I managed to survive into adulthood without the Demon side consuming the human part of me? The desire to unravel the mystery of my existence grew stronger with each passing moment.
With my recovery progressing well, I was discharged from the hospital and allowed to return to The Institute. President Larou and Anthony had made arrangements for my isolation, ensuring that I had a separate schedule from the Blood Vampires. Anthony became my tutor, and while the thought of spending more time with him made me nervous, I also felt a strange connection to him.
In our first tutoring session, Anthony's cold and serious demeanor softened slightly as he explained the intricacies of Demon history and the different species that inhabited The Institute. We delved into the tales of powerful Succubi, mischievous Imps, and fierce Werewolves. Anthony's knowledge was vast, and he shared it with a passion that I hadn't seen before.
As the days turned into weeks, Anthony and I developed a routine. We would meet in the library, surrounded by ancient tomes and dusty scrolls, and he would guide me through the complexities of Demon magic and etiquette. Our interactions were not without their challenges, as Anthony's stoic nature sometimes clashed with my curious and impulsive personality. However, we gradually found a balance and began to understand each other better.
During one of our study sessions, I mustered the courage to ask Anthony about my unique situation. "Anthony, do you think there's a reason why I'm different? Why the Demon side hasn't consumed me like it supposedly does with other half-breeds?"
He paused for a moment, his piercing gaze fixed on me. "Cynthia, you are indeed an anomaly, and it is a mystery that even the most knowledgeable Demon scholars can't explain. But I believe that there might be something within you, something powerful, that is keeping the Demon side at bay."
His words sparked a glimmer of hope within me. Perhaps there was more to my existence than I had ever imagined. I was determined to uncover the truth and understand the depths of my own.
As the days went by and Anthony continued to tutor me, a growing resentment began to simmer within me. I understood his intentions were to protect me, but his overbearing nature made me feel suffocated. As a half-Succubus, I had needs and desires that were different from those of other Demons. I required s****l interactions to survive, and Anthony's constant vigilance to keep me away from potential partners frustrated me.
One evening, as we sat in the library pouring over ancient texts, I couldn't contain my frustration any longer. I slammed the book shut, causing Anthony to look up at me with surprise and concern.
"What's wrong, Cynthia?" he asked, his voice laced with worry.
"What's wrong? Everything, Anthony!" I exclaimed, my voice tinged with anger. "You're constantly hovering over me, ensuring that I stay away from any potential partners. But you don't understand what it's like for me. As a Succubus, I have needs that can't be ignored."
Anthony's expression softened, and he sighed. "I know it's difficult for you, Cynthia, but I can't risk your safety. Blood Vampires are drawn to your kind, and it's dangerous for you to engage in intimate encounters."
I scoffed, frustration bubbling to the surface. "Dangerous? I've been surviving on my own all this time, Anthony. I know how to protect myself. I don't need you constantly watching over me like I'm some fragile creature."
His eyes met mine, a mix of concern and sadness. "Cynthia, it's not just about your physical safety. It's about protecting your heart and soul. Succubi have a power over others that can be addictive and destructive. I don't want to see you hurt or see others hurt because of you."
I looked away, my anger slowly dissipating as his words sank in. He wasn't trying to control me; he was genuinely concerned for my well-being. But that still didn't change the fact that I needed to find a way to satisfy my Succubus desires without endangering myself or others.
After a moment of silence, I finally spoke, my voice softened. "Anthony, I understand that you're trying to protect me, and I appreciate it. But I can't deny who I am. I need to find a way to feed without causing harm. Can you help me?"
He hesitated for a moment, his gaze searching mine. "Cynthia, as a Blood Vampire, I know the art of seduction. I can teach you how to allure and entice humans without drawing them into dangerous situations. But I need you to promise me that you'll be careful and not let your instincts overpower your judgment."
I nodded, grateful for his willingness to help. "I promise, Anthony. I will be careful, and I'll listen to your guidance. I don't want to put myself or others in harm's.
I felt nervous about Anthony helping me to hunt humans but what else was I supposed to do? I just hoped he was as good of a teacher as he promised.
