The file is on the bed beside me. Six years of paperwork, and somehow none of it explains why my mother was placed in one of the most expensive psychiatric facilities in the state when I was fourteen, why she never came home, or why she died there six years later. I've had the file hidden inside one of my boots since I took it from my father's safe. Edward is still away on business, which is the only reason I dared search his things in the first place. Waiting until he came home would have been stupid. My father notices everything in this house, including things nobody else would consider worth noticing. A drawer left slightly open, a chair moved, a document returned in the wrong order. So I took my chance while I had it, and for once, I got exactly what I wanted. The file is mine. Ed
