Chapter Ten When I returned, Ben told me that Rufus had eaten a dog treat and then promptly fell asleep. “Although I’m sure he’ll wake up as soon as our food arrives,” he said, just the faintest hint of a smile touching the corners of his mouth. “I’m fairly certain that dog can hear me opening the refrigerator door from the other side of the house.” “It’s a talent all dogs have,” I replied with a grin. “Didn’t you know that?” “I’m finding out.” We sat in the formal dining room, the long table covered with a fine white cloth as we ate Chinese takeout. Since Chinatown was less than a mile away, it was easy to get awesome Chinese delivery in our neighborhood.
