Alpha Alexander was finally getting sorted with his new powers as Alpha of the White Moon Pack. It had only been 3 days, but he was getting the hang of them, and his eyes had returned to their normal Emerald color instead of the white light that they were at the initial transfer of power. His veins still glowed at times as his body continued to adjust to the influx of power.
Alpha Alexander went on his morning jog around the perimeter of his pack lands, as was his normal schedule. He did switch up the pattern and the track daily so as to not be caught unaware by intruders trying to memorize his routine. He knew from learning from the other Alphas that it was important not to be predictable. There may be peace at the moment, but there was always the chance of change in that. And there was always Alpha Scott to think about. He had one of the largest packs in North America, and he was always a possible threat.
When Alpha Alexander was finished with his run, he returned to the pack house to shower and get dressed in clean clothes. He may be the Alpha now, but he didn't change his style. His father had said that it wasn't important how he wore his clothing, just how he led his pack. His people knew him to be dressed casual and comfy but also always ready. After he got cleaned up, he went to breakfast with the pack house. He smiled and sighed in contentment and peace.
Alpha Alexander was ready for his training session that occurred that afternoon. He knew there were a few new pack members, and rather than have his commanders test their skills, he wanted to be involved so there was no special treatment with warriors. You had to test yourself against the Alpha, and then he would place you in the ranks. This was true of any newcomers to the pack. He needed to know all the strengths and weaknesses in his pack. To apply for the pack, you came to us, put in a request, and then came to the rink. Then after, the Alpha would place you or ask you to leave. Alpha Alexander used his enhanced skills on reading wolf auras to determine if new comers would be a good fit or if they might cause strife here. So, it was very important.
The first two warriors incoming were good, and he placed them above entry level. The next was a she-wolf who had no combat skills but was honest in her wants to develop childcare and assist with the pups. The 4th was someone with a mask, and their hair was hidden, but they came right into the rink and started the training battle. The warrior was so talented that they knocked Alpha Alexander down in the first round and got him off balance in the 2nd round. One the 3rd round, Alpha Alexander was able to pin them and ripped off the mask. The second Alpha Alexander did that, he looked upon his mate for the first time. Beautiful beyond compare and a challenge in the rink? His wolf surged to the surface and howled at him to take her. He tamped down the wolf inside and spoke to her.
"What is your name?" he said softly.
"Zella, Alpha. I am here looking to join your pack. I am a warrior." she responded.
The problem was that she didn't act like she knew he was her mate. That was impossible. If she was looking at him, she should know. Why isn't she understanding how important they were for each other? He must conviene the advisors and the Moon Goddess to be sure he knew what he was feeling. He knew it was the mate bond. He could feel her arousal, but the mate bond was suppressed. He could feel more was there, but also, not there.
"Welcome, Zella. I am Alpha Alexander. You may be a warrior, but I will start you at mid ranks. We have never had a she-wolf warrior, and we need to make sure you can keep up with the other warriors." Alpha Alexander spoke clearly but softly and pointed her to Charles for more direction.
Alpha Alexander continued with the remaining pack trials. 2 of which he had to send away as they were bitter and had hate in their hearts from their last pack. He finished there and sat down at the edge of the rink with Charles. After he drank a cannister of water, he spoke again.
"Charles, do you know of mates that did not both feel the bond?" Alpha Alexander asked his best friend.
"Not that I know of. But I also am only 19. I think that would be a question for the elders or maybe the other Alphas." Charles said while deep in thought. "Did you meet your mate today?"
Alpha Alexander thought about keeping it to himself. He didn't usually share everything inside himself, but he was so confused that he did say," Maybe."
Alpha Alexander went back to the pack house to shower and change and then sat on the floor in his suite and started meditating. He was there for several minutes before he was able to see the Moon Goddess.
"Yes, Alex. She is your mate," the Moon Goddess smiled at him.
Alpha Alexander was perplexed. How did she know that he preferred that name? "But Goddess, she didn't SEE me. Am I not her mate?" he said worriedly.
"You will have to find her. She is under a spell and will need a great warrior to fight for her to return to herself. Can you fight for your mate? She is also a great warrior." the Moon Goddess told him.
"I will. Who do I fight for her?" Alpha Alexander inquired.
"I cannot say," she replied as she faded away.
The Moon Goddess was not always able to stay long with them, but she did try to help at every chance she could. She loved them as they were all her children. At least his worry was eased in knowing that he did find his mate. Only 3 days after his 18th birthday and so soon into his reign. What fortune! He tried to remind calm but his wolf was ready to claim her. First, they needed to know who to fight. But to do that, they needed to get more information from her. If she was under a spell, then she could prove dangerous to the pack without trying to.
Alpha Alexander sent a mental command to the warriors to be on guard and left Zella out of it. She needed no heads up if she was under a spell. He then reached out to the pack advisors on spell breaking.
The witch that worked with them was old, older than anyone he knew to be alive. She was perhaps in her 300s. But they didn't keep track as wolves and humans did. Hatti, the witch was a hard a** who had been around the block once or twice.
"Ms. Hatti, can you help to reveal a spell? How do I know who cast it? How do I find out who has done something to a wolf?" Alpha Alexander asked her.
"Oh child, I must see them, touch their hands, and then I can start to understand those things." The witch said kindly to him.
"Then you shall touch her this evening, she will attend the pack feast," said Alpha Alexander.
