Chapter3- Silver Moon Pack

984 Words
Debra closes the diary, placing it under a few of her books hidden from other prying eyes, especially her mother, who she thinks is very nosy. At the same time, the dinner bell rings for the pack-house to gather in the canteen on the first floor. All pack members, ranked and un-ranked, eat together. It's a huge round table and everyone is given the same importance in the pack. Unlike other packs, the secret to the prosperity of this pack is that Alpha Derick and Luna Selena treat everyone equally. Apart from pack duties, each member of the pack has their own business in the human world. A part of their income from the human world is given to pack treasures for the benefit of the whole pack. Thus, everyone contributes to the prosperity, strength, and resources of the Silver Moon pack. The justice system inside the pack is fair and hence, when rogues want refuge, the good ones want to be there and the evil ones want to destroy this pack. To get accepted into the pack, one has to go through rigorous tests. The pack is located near Silver Moon Lake, which is situated in between the lush green forest. The forest around houses witches and wolves alike, giving each property its privacy. The forests are also the training ground for both alike. The wizard and witch heading the "Clan of Mooncrafters", is Beta Fredrick and Beta Selene. Selene also happens to be the twin sister of Luna Selena. Mooncrafters wield magic to protect the pack from outside dangers. They work with wolves and have advanced R&D to technological advances. Thus, making this pack a not penetrable one. Surrounding the forests are the rolling hills with shimmering waterfalls. Alpha Derrick is one of the most prominent people in the human world. He is a billionaire, owning the Conglomerate of Housing and Estate companies. He hires both humans and wolves from his pack. The core management consists of members just from his pack. The pack house is a modern, state-of-the-art building built by pack architects. The private properties are built of marble, stone, and wood, giving each a contemporary, minimalist look on the outside with a garage, pathway, and a garden for the kids to play. Residents of the pack can choose how they want their houses to look and be built. The pack-house is a grand building situated in the clearing beside Silver Moon Lake. The clearing consists of training grounds, a gym and fitness center, an orphanage and old-age housing, a school, a college, and a hospital. The R&D institute and advanced training grounds are located in the forest, hidden from the vicinity of any prying eyes of guests. At school, children are taught about all the human subjects; science, arts, commerce, the basics of different religions, and most rigorously, about myths and legends of the Moon Goddess. Each werewolf is prepared to have a self-sustaining life in the human world when necessary. The pack-house is built of glass, wood, stones, and cement. The glass isn't see-through at night, giving the pack-house residents the required privacy at night. The residents inside can have a great view at night too, but not the outsiders. The first level has the pack canteen and mess where all pack members eat together. Meals are served 3 times a day. Evening snacks are sent to people at different places. According to Alpha Derrick, the reason for doing this is to have omegas fit for running. None of the members of the pack are incompetent to fight wars or defend territories. Omegas have their roles to play during wars and battles. On usual days, the banquet hall is converted to a mess for everyone. While on special days, the banquet hall hosts grand events. A gaming room for enjoyment and community bonding. An in-house theater to deliver news, and watch movies for the whole pack. The second floor has a pack library with general information about the pack, Selene, and the works of other packs, It houses un-mated wolves, 3 conferences for guests, houses rogues who are through the final tests and are awaiting their houses being built as well. Guests arriving with un-ranked warrior wolves are also housed on this floor. The third floor is occupied by ranked guests and pack Delta, pack Gamma, and Omega's families, and warrior wolves' families who are supposed to be on duty at the pack-house 24/7. It has 2 mini-theaters that can accommodate about 100 people each. The fourth floor houses the Beta's and Alpha's family and their offices, leaders of the clan and pack. With added responsibilities, the families of Alpha and Beta have more privileges. One can see that the leaders of the pack and clan look for practicality rather than the distribution of power. The ground floor is occupied by an in-house pack garage. Any member can use transportation if required to visit the human world for official business. Tonight on the menu, they had medium rare steak and greens, chicken soup, bread, egg poached, sunny side up. For desserts, it was death by dark chocolate, Debra's favorite. The only reason Debra was early to the mess. She waited for everyone to arrive. When all the seats were occupied, Alpha Derrick began to eat first, followed by Luna Selena, Beta Fredrick, and Beta Selene. Then everyone else. That's how a pack and a clan respect their leaders. Debra was in a hurry to finish off the appetizers and the main course and get on with the desserts quickly for a second serving. Not only Debra, but all the other kids behaved the same. On days such as this, Aunt Marina always made double the serving. Few adults were nodding either with agreement or disagreement over too much intake of sugar. Slowly, as the mess was emptying, a few elderly couples joined the kids for the second round.
