She had 2 hours to get the h*ll out. He would awaken from his drunken stupor by then. She had been stashing away money for years. After the honeymoon stage, 3 years, she started putting away small amounts of her paychecks just in case she needed to make it on her own. Although she didn't expect she would need to run, she had an idea that he may not be the one after all.
She quietly made her way to the room. Her pulse shuddered as she opened the door and peaked inside. Quietly she made her way to the closet, cramming some clothes into her duffle bag. Under a pile of old sweats, she pulled her bank card out from one of the pockets. Her only life line. She opened the account in a small town 60 miles away. Slowly adding small unnoticeable amounts into it week by week.
After she was sure she had what she needed, she was ready to go. He*l she wasn't taking much, but she didn't care. She could get whatever she needed later. Hopefully, he wouldn't figure out she was gone until she was far enough away for him to find her. She would drive south and ditch her car for a rental. She had no proof but guaranteed her dear husband had trackers on her car and phone. She had written down the important numbers and quietly put her phone on the bedside table. Her pulse pounded in her ears as she slowly backed out of the bedroom. She raced downstairs and made a dash for her car.
This was it, no turning back. She watched as her marital home disappeared in her rearview mirror. A low chuckle echoed in her head.
Freedom. Finally.
