Chater Two: New World, New Life

As soon as she landed, Sidney waited by the arrivals gate for Grace—her dad’s business partner who was supposed to pick her up. She looked around the busy airport, watching people greet their families and leave one by one. She waited. And waited. But Grace never showed up. Two long hours later, Sidney was starting to feel tired and worried when she finally saw someone rushing toward her through the crowd. “Sidney!” the woman called. It was Grace. “I’m so sorry, dear!” Grace said breathlessly as she reached her and quickly pulled Sidney into a hug. “My car broke down on the way here, and traffic was terrible.” Sidney let out a small sigh of relief. For a moment, she thought she had been forgotten in this huge, unfamiliar place. “Come on,” Grace said kindly, picking up one of Sidney’s bags. “Let’s get you home.” Sidney followed her toward the exit, taking one last look at the airport behind her. A new country. A new home. A completely new life. And she had no idea what was waiting for her. Sydney studied her. Grace was an average-height woman with blonde hair, blue eyes, and lips as red as strawberries. Grace noticed Sydney’s hesitation and smiled warmly. “Oh Sydney, you must be tired. Let’s get going.” After a short drive, they finally reached Grace’s house. Sydney’s eyes widened. It was huge—almost like a mansion. The night was dark, so she couldn’t see everything clearly, but even from what she saw, it looked stunning. Inside, the place was even more beautiful. The floors shone under the soft lights, and a grand staircase curved up to the second floor. As they stepped into the house, Sydney suddenly noticed someone standing across the hallway. It was a girl. She was tall and beautiful, with long dark brown hair and striking emerald-green eyes. She wore a soft pink flowy short gown with black heels and looked about Sydney’s age. She walked toward them, and Grace smiled. “This is my daughter, Nuri,” Grace said proudly. Nuri gave a quick wave, her expression unreadable. As I lifted my hand to introduce myself, she ignored me like I was yesterday’s trash. “I’m going out. I’ll be back before ten,” she said coldly. And just like that, she turned and left. Grace chuckled awkwardly before guiding me through the house. “Come on, I’ll show you around!” She pushed open a door, revealing a cozy purple-themed bedroom. The wallpaper shimmered softly under the light. A big black and purple bed sat in the middle, covered with silk pillows. By the window was a small table, and at the other end of the room was a cute gamer setup—a sleek lavender chair tucked under a long white desk. On the desk sat a glowing pink gaming laptop, its keyboard lights shifting softly through pastel colors. A pair of headphones rested beside it, along with a few neatly stacked notebooks, sparkly pens, and a tiny plant in a purple pot. The whole space felt warm and creative. “Woah… this is big,” I muttered, my eyes wide with excitement. “Thank you so much!” I squealed, spinning around to face Grace. “How did you know I—uh…” Grace grinned, clearly amused. “It’s nothing,” she said with a playful shrug. “Your dad just told me a few of your little wants and needs.” Then she smiled warmly. “Now go wash up and come downstairs for dinner.”
