CHAPTER FIVE
AMELIA’S POV
The whistling of arrows threw me onto the ground as I sought survival in the leaves. I crawled to a nearby tree, resting my back and observing the surroundings one more time.
Two of the guards were already on the ground, groaning in pain with two arrows each in their shoulders.
“Send your report back to the palace, hurry,” one of the men lying on the floor reached out to the last standing member.
“I’ll come back for you, okay,” he said, placing his hand on their shoulders before taking the chance to run away. He was almost out of sight when the whistling of arrows came again. This time I saw it clearly.
The arrows were normal arrows but had a strong aura and a heavy presence in them. They weren’t usual arrows, and from the effects, they were developed to kill werewolves like us.
“What’s a young and beautiful lady like you doing in the forest?” a husky voice questioned.
I trembled as I began to hear footsteps. The leaves began to rustle, and the wild hummed a chorus to amplify the sound. I trembled as the sound of footsteps came closer.
“Who are you?”, I asked looking at the figure that appeared from the shadows.
“The name is Gemini. “The words echoed in my ears as I wondered why he had decided to help me.
“Please Gemini can you help me out of this forest”, I asked. He let out a wet smile and after several thoughts signaled for me to follow him.
I feared the guards would rise up once more so I ran towards him. Following him, regardless of the place or choice of destination he decides to help me to.
After resting the night in the small hut he had built for himself we began the journey once more. The forest which had been easy to walk in at night was now crowded with more trees than before which seemed a little worrisome.
“So who are you exactly?”, I asked as I followed behind him.
“My name is Gemini. I am a wolf hunter”, he declared not stopping in his tracks. The fact that he was a wolf hunter meant he could sniff them out easily and would have killed me if his scent picked me up as a wolf.
“So Gemini, those men you shot arrows at yesterday. What would happen to them? I mean, wolves can survive arrow wounds”, I inquired.
“They can’t survive if that’s what is bothering you. My arrows aren’t normal arrows, they are laced with wolfs most hated substance which I got from their origin book”, he explained.
“That means they wouldn’t survive the hit if I’m correct”, I asked looking straight at him.
“You’re smart.”, he let out, still not stopping in his tracks.
“Can’t we do a proper burial for them. The fact that they tried to kill me doesn’t mean they don’t deserve one right.”, I suggested. I didn’t like the idea of leaving their body out cold in the woods even though I would have been the one in their shoes of not for Gemini.
I wanted to help them. I wanted to give them a final burial celebration before they leave the surface of the earth.
*You have a good heart young lady but you don’t need to worry about them in this forest.”, he let out.
“What do you mean by that?”, I asked?
“This forest is known as the swiveller. Do you know why?”, he questioned as he halted in his tracks.
I was excited that I got him to stop. My legs were already hurting and I needed a break away from the tracks before me.
“I have no idea”, I responded. He let out a chuckle as he moved towards me. I felt the need to run but ignored it as I was too tired to take another graceful step.
“The reason this forest is called the swiveller is because it lives.”, he broke it down to me.
“Lives?”, I became anxious to know more.
“This forest is no ordinary forest. It is the guardian which keeps wolves away from the human realm and the humans away from the supernatural realm where you reside. “, he explained.
“How does that work?” , I was curious to know the details.
“The guardian which is in turn the forest swivels every hour, thereby changing the location of the human realm. This way the wolves and humans can never meet”, he explained.
“So the guardian became a forest in order to prevent people from disrupting the balance between wolf and man. “, I questioned.
“You can say that. The thing is that, the trees here are all connected to each other and the place where you were attacked is indeed the guardians heart. “, he revealed.
“The heart? Do you really mean the forest is breathing”, I asked.
“It definitely is and as for those men that attacked you, they have become a member of the forest and have been articulated into the forest of life.”, he declared.
“What do you mean by that? Did they get eaten by the beast?”, my questions were getting to much.
“The forest would have swallowed them and articulated them as trees. That’s why the trees grew more in number today”, he explained.
“That’s quite a lot to take in”, I said to him.
“That’s just it”, he stood up, setting out for the journey ahead.
After several hours of walking we came to a halt right in front of a blue coloured portal. From the looks I knew I had arrived at the human realm and joy filled me to the core. I wanted to move on ahead but he pulled me back immediately.
“This is far deadlier than I expected”, his tone soothing and uneasy.
“What do you mean?”, I asked.
“The beasts of the forest have been released. We have only two minutes to set off all the traps and exit the forest before they find us”, his words piercing through my heart.
We were still trying to disarm the laser traps when a wave of fright hit us. Something big had showed up, it’s Aura was far domineering than that of the Alpha’s and it’s footsteps made the earth crumble.
“We’re too late”.
