One year later Nick I removed the pendant from my drawer and gazed at the small silver wolf, howling at the half moon. Elodie took this heirloom, which had been passed down for generations on my mother’s side, and used it as a bloody weapon. I softly ran my finger over it, letting out small traces of the lingering scent from a year ago. Once it’s gone, I’ll long for this scent. I told Levi. Just like a tiny puppy, he sat there whimpering continuously. It still confuses me why her scent was so distinct, even though she wasn’t our mate.
