Chapter Two

1166 Words
Nick Startled by the worst shrieking I have ever heard; I suddenly woke up from my slumber. I groan inwardly before I check the time and see it is only half-six in the morning. Christ, is it possible to get a good sleep around here? I thought to myself. My wolf is still sleeping the lazy s**t. I dragged myself out of bed and yanked on the nearest T-shirt I could find. Following the shrieking sound, I find Sierra in our living room in floods of tears, holding onto a piece of clothing. Through sobs, Sierra exclaimed, “Look what ‘she’ has done to my dress.” I should have known it was Sierra making all this noise. I couldn’t tolerate the girl, who sounded like a wailing banshee most of the time. She was the sister of my best friend and future Beta Hunter. But Sierra was nothing like her brother. Even though she was the Beta daughter, she wasn’t particularly smart. She was a stunning girl with her blonde curly hair and endless legs. However, it’s crucial to understand that her beauty is only skin deep. Without them even realising, I went unnoticed by them. I watched as my mother tried to calm the dimwit down. A skilled and caring Luna, she always remained calm in stressful moments. “Are you able to identify the culprit?” my father bellowed at her, not taking his eyes off the morning newspaper. Unfortunately, my father lacked patience with silly matters like this. I stood in the doorway with my arms folded across my chest, watching the whole drama unfold. She nodded towards my father. “Well! out with it, we don’t have all day!” “Lilith! “What!” my father said as he looked up from his newspaper. In a moment of tension, my mother quickly regained her composure. If I hadn’t been watching her, I wouldn’t have noticed the slight change in her body language. With a smile, she reassured Sierra that she would fix this while rubbing her back. With sniffles, she expressed her gratitude towards her Luna. They eventually notice me standing in the doorway. Unfortunately, it’s Sierra who greets me first. Skipping up to me, she put her arm around my arm and said, “Hey Nick.” With a huge grin on her face, she looks up at me. She clearly isn’t that devastated anymore about her damn dress. I cringe when she puts her head on my arm. Freya will not like this. Few people liked Sierra. She was fake and nasty, which radiated through her personality. Freya hated her the most after the little stunt Sierra did last year. Pushing the thought down, I looked at my smiling mother. “If you would like me to sort out this issue for you?” “While I appreciate your offer, Nicholas, I am more than capable of resolving the issue by myself. However, could you kindly escort Sierra back to her floor? She is very upset about the entire ordeal.” Rolling my eyes, I nodded and unwrapped my arm from Sierra. Acknowledging my mother, I said, “Sure.” Sierra confidently enters her second-floor apartment, making her way to the kitchen with a sassy sway. I couldn’t hide my eye roll, feeling even more repulsed than she could comprehend. I see Oliver, the Beta, approaching me with a smile on his face. “Hey Nicholas, Hunter hasn’t woken up yet. Has my daughter been causing you any trouble?” He gazes at Sierra, pouring orange juice into a glass, then turns his attention back to me. “No, it was just a miscommunication with one omega.” With a smile on my face, I catch Sierra’s eyes undressing me as she stands next to her father. “Ahh, I see. Can I get you a coffee while you wait for Hunter?” “No, I’ll pass. I’m going to go for a run.” Waving at the Beta and the dimwit, I made my way downstairs into the bright sun. I should take full advantage of this gorgeous morning. No one else is out at this early hour, just omegas preparing for the day. I played no role in the omegas. That was the Luna’s job. I attempted to build relationships within the pack through events and gatherings. After all, I would eventually run this pack with my Luna by my side. The thought excited me. My life was grand, and it would only improve within time. I stripped off in my usual private spot and transformed into my sleepy wolf, Levi. Stretching his back legs, he yawned before we pounced into the forest. The forest was Levi’s favourite place to go for a run. He loved bouncing in between all the trees, jumping over logs and listening to the bird’s chirp. Waking up for this was worth it. Levi told me. Levi effortlessly jumped over logs and swiftly manoeuvred through bushes until he abruptly halted and perked up his ears. As I was about to ask my wolf what was wrong, the smell of the sweetest scent of a she-wolf nearby reached our nostrils. Even Freya didn’t smell this good! Suddenly, I realised. Could it be our mate? I asked Levi. Levi, being extremely stealthy, shakes his head while following the beautiful scent. It can’t be Nick! We are not twenty-one till the week after; he explained to me. Yes, that’s true, I pondered to myself. Peeking between some bushes, he caught sight of a young she-wolf walking through the forest, clutching her stomach. Who’s that? Is she hurt? Levi threw questions at me. He was being more possessive than usual. I am unsure. I said to Levi, feeling the same possessiveness as he was. Why is she so far away from the pack? Is it the outcasts who my dad took pity on instead of making them rogues? I thought to myself. While I was thinking, Levi chipped into my thoughts. Unfortunately, having a wolf, you never have a moment to yourself or think without your other part of you giving them their two pennies’ worth. Alpha is exceptional in that way. There’s a strong possibility it could be. I took back control from Levi, still in our wolf form. I followed her from afar. After a five-minute walk, we came to a small cottage. Hidden from view, I watched the girl open the door and enter. She is not our mate. When viewed from behind, she looks like a young wolf, with a petite frame and carrying some baby fat. Her potent scent suggests she’s still going through puberty. The wolf that gets to be her mate will be a lucky one with a scent like hers. I pondered the reasons behind the young she-wolf’s distance from the pack and her overpowering scent. I then realise my future Beta, Hunter, was trying to mind link me to ask where I had got to.
