Chapter 8 That Will Never Happen

910 Words
Liliana instinctively smoothed her clothes and showed a polite smile. "Ms. Nolan." But Savannah's attitude was nothing like it used to be. Gone was the gentle politeness she once showed. Now she stood there with her arms crossed, looking down at Liliana with open hostility. "Drop the act! You really think I can't tell what's going on between you and Anthony?" She leaned closer, her sharp gaze locking onto Liliana. "You should've seen Anthony that day. The way he panicked over you? I hated you the moment I saw that! I still don't understand how someone like you managed to worm your way into his life!" Liliana clenched her hands so tightly that her nails dug into her palms. She didn't feel the pain. Instead, she laughed softly, a hint of mockery in her voice. "What's the matter? Someone as amazing as you, afraid I might steal your boyfriend?" The words struck a nerve instantly. Savannah's face twisted with anger. She stormed forward and grabbed Liliana's wrist, squeezing hard enough to nearly crush the bones beneath her grip. Liliana tried to pull away, but her body was still weak from the past few days. She didn't have the strength to fight back. "Liliana! Stay away from Anthony. If you don't, I swear I'll destroy you!" Savannah hissed through gritted teeth. Liliana looked at her. Then, unexpectedly, she laughed. If Anthony ever saw the real Savannah, the version standing in front of her now, his expression would probably be priceless. "Relax. I'm not interested in someone else's trash." She turned to leave. But suddenly, Savannah released her wrist. Then she screamed. Her body lurched backward, and the next second, she tumbled down the stairs! "Help!" Liliana froze in shock. She instinctively reached out to grab her, but she was too late. "Liliana!" Anthony appeared out of nowhere. Before she could react, he clamped his hand around her throat, slamming her hard against the wall! "How dare you hurt Savannah?" he roared. His eyes burned with rage. Liliana shook her head desperately, choking out the words. "I didn't..." But Anthony only grew more furious. "I saw it with my own eyes! And you're still lying? You're jealous of Savannah, aren't you? You've always wanted to know what you mean to me, right? Fine. I'll tell you today. You're nothing but a toy to me. A replacement for her! If you didn't happen to look a little like Savannah, do you think I would've ever been with someone like you? The daughter of some greasy mechanic?" Liliana felt something inside her chest shatter. The pain was so sharp it nearly stopped her breathing. Anthony always knew exactly where to strike to hurt her the most. She stopped struggling and explaining with a bitter smile. Instead, she simply closed her eyes and let him rage. Outside the operating room, a doctor's anxious voice rang out. "The patient needs a blood transfusion immediately! She's lost too much blood! We're short on A-type blood. Does anyone here have A-type?" Anthony released Liliana's throat as if granting mercy. Then he grabbed her arm and dragged her toward the operating room. "Take hers!" he shouted at the doctor. "She has plenty!" He turned toward Liliana, his voice ice cold. "I'll give you one chance to make things right. Donate your blood to Savannah. If you refuse, I'll hate you for the rest of my life." But Liliana had already reached her limit. She would never forgive Anthony again. Before she could even steady herself, she was shoved into a chair in the blood collection room. Anthony snatched the needle from the nurse's hand. Instead, he picked up a thick syringe and drove it straight into Liliana's vein. Bag after bag filled with dark red blood, her body grew colder, her vision dimmed, and finally, Liliana collapsed into darkness. When she woke up again, she was lying in a cold hospital room. Her phone buzzed. A message appeared on the screen: Ms. Jennings, your previous identity has been successfully erased. Your new identity documents have been sent to your phone. Liliana stared at the message. A quiet, relieved smile appeared on her lips. Using her new ID, she booked a flight overseas. This time, she was leaving Anthony for good. As she walked past another hospital room, she saw Anthony sitting beside Savannah's bed. He was holding her hand tightly. Savannah leaned weakly against him. "Anthony... It's nothing. You don't need to worry so much." She sighed softly. "Lyla probably just got a little jealous seeing us together. Girls like her... The daughter of a mechanic... Of course, she'd want to climb up by getting close to someone like you. That's probably why she pushed me. Don't blame her, okay?" With just a few soft words, Savannah turned Liliana into the villain. For people who were loved and protected, twisting the truth was effortless. Anthony stroked her cheek, his voice sickeningly gentle. "You're too kind, Savannah. Don't worry. When you feel better, I'll drag her here and make her apologize to you." 'Apologize?' 'That will never happen.' Liliana hailed a taxi and headed straight for the airport. Everything in that rented apartment she once lived in, she left it all behind. The boarding announcement echoed through the terminal. Liliana tightened her grip on the boarding pass and walked toward the gate without looking back. 'Goodbye, Anthony. From this moment on, no matter what, our paths will never cross again.'
