Afterword:
I have read and heard a great deal about the similarities of Chinese culture and Jewish culture. Mentioned most often are strong family values and a belief in education. I’m no expert on this from an intellectual standpoint, but I have some relevant personal experience. I grew up in a suburb of Kansas City that had a large Jewish population and in high school, especially, my circle of friends had a majority of Jews. In fact, the first objection I ever received from a date’s parents was not over my Chinese descent per se, but because | wasn’t Jewish. I went on to share an apartment with three Jewish guys in my senior year of college and had two serious, long-term relationships in my twenties with Jewish women. So what does this have to do with a story called “Shaunessy Fong”?
