CAELINA
It all felt strange.
It was almost as if my own body was getting ready to betray me. I balled my fingers into shaky fists which remained pressed to my sides as I stood there. Heart pounding. Breath hitching.
The very sight of him drove heat into my veins. He stood in front of me proudly, with his eyes remaining as hooded as they usually were. My tongue felt heavy in my mouth. It had just betrayed me.
The yes I said was supposed to be in my head. In my mind. Now I had to live with the consequences of my actions.
And by ‘consequences’, I mean him.
Alejandro.
“Are you sure about it?”
His words glided out with a precision that had me biting hard into my lower lip to stop myself from blurting out something unintentional.
I tried to think of what to say but even before I could form words, he cut me short. “Smart of you to not fall for my little trick. Real ones know once you say yes, there's no going back.”
My breath caught in my chest. “N-no going back?”
Nina seemed to not be having it and chose to step forward. “Excuse you, you have no right to set a claim over my room mate. Who do you think you are?!”
Fear gripped my heart as I held my breath, hoping he wouldn't say anything rude as it would only tease Nina's ego. She wouldn't want to let go and the two, from what I gathered, were a mixture for disaster.
I flashed my gaze at Alejandro thinking he'd be angry. He wasn't. In fact he didn't even seem fazed by what was going on. He only weighed her with a glare before sliding a finger into his chest pocket and bringing out a card which he passed to her.
“Give that to your father, I'm sure he knows me.”
“Do you know who he is? My father would never be friends with someone as shady as—”
His eyes darkened at the sound of ‘shady’ and that was when he clenched his jaw line and shot her a glare that had me taking two steps backwards on her behalf.
What was he about to do?
He paced towards Nina, pausing at just a hair's breath away. Her chest heaved heavily. It was obvious she was struggling to maintain her composure in front of him and was slipping out of the mask quickly.
“Again, I repeat. If you want to know more about me, ask your dad who Alejandro is. I'm sure he'll tell you how far back we go.”
As if that wasn't enough, he let out a low growl. “I'm the mover and the shaker of this great pack. Your father's post? I gave it to him. Trespass and I'll give you a reason to fear me.”
Nina's lashes flustered and that was when I stepped forward, stretching my fingers and bracing his arm even though his speech had also spooked the s**t out of me.
“Alejandro—”
He didn't respond. Instead, he turned to Nina, his eyes flashing brightly with gleams of a dangerous calm.
“You may leave.”
“But..”
He cut her short with a glare.
Nina turned her gaze to me and seeing how serious he was, I signaled to her to excuse us.
“Call me if anything goes wrong, okay?”
I nodded, watching as she turned to walk back to the car. The sound of the car's engine revving had me turning back to stare as I thought of the ways I'd be getting back home. I'd have to walk.
That'd take ages.
Just as the thought crossed my mind, I felt a scalding heat linger on me and I knew it was his. I straightened my gaze to face him, my heart hammering in my chest.
I stared back at him speechless. And breathless.
“Come with me.”
He turned around and without checking if I was following, strutted towards the parking lot where Nina parked her car. Her car was obviously not there again since she'd left and all that was left was his car.
It looked expensive.
Like the type of cars people pause to stare at. It had a sleek black shine that had me obsessing over every feature. I soon became lost in the car's sharp exteriors that I didn't see when a man dressed in all black apparel stepped out from the car and walked to the back door, opened it and waited for us.
I froze at the sight for the first few seconds. What the hell was happening?
“Let's go.”
He said again and this time I could tell he wasn't reminding me to snap back to the real world but a warning. A strict one.
He moved towards the door smoothly and entered easily while the door remained open for me to do the same. It took me several seconds to whip my head out of the web of thoughts I had it wrapped in before I finally stepped into the car with a heavy heart.
Maybe I should alert Nina. I should definitely do that.
I tapped my fingers on the controls as I tried to think of something I could do. The concept of stepping into a car was dangerous and weird if you asked me.
What were the chances?
I stepped into the car and the guard who seemed to be delighted to finally get to close the door and head back in jammed the door close.
I tightened my fingers around my phone as I tried to send a text to Nina secretly telling her I'd gotten into his car and wasn't aware where we were headed but before I could send it, he beamed.
“Sending a text to inform your friend?”
My chest burned red.
My fingers quivered.
“Do you really think I'd try to kidnap you?”
Before I could even start, he continued. “That would be way easier considering it'd take just two of my men to get the job done. But I chose to take the legal pattern to make you mine. Mine to ruin.”
Chills raced down my spine as heat burned my n*****s. I kept my gaze off him, trying to control my wolf's heat. Unfortunately that was hard. Being this close to him would soon make me go into rut and it didn't help that he was staring at me too.
The sound of the driver's voice was what lessened the tension. “Where are we headed next, sir?”
I gulped. Hard.
My palms grew sweaty. My heart grew weary.
Alejandro's voice floated out like the finest of all wines. “To dorm block ½, building 2.”
My breath caught. “How did you know my address?”
“That's the easiest detail I could gather on you. Weird how your family ancestry was nowhere in the picture.”
My heart thundered heavily in my chest as I bit hard into my tongue to hold myself back. Did he know about my family?
After moving to the pack, I made sure my ancestry was a hard find for anyone unless I told them. I just hoped he didn't realize. At least not yet.
Not when I haven't gotten revenge on my parents and brother's death.
Not when I haven't made him pay yet.
“Traders.”
He raised a brow. “Ugh?”
“My family were traders.”
I rolled my eyes, hoping he bought into it but all he said was, “What trade?”
“C-cu…”
I stammered.
His eyes darkened. “That tells something other than the picture you're trying to paint.” His fingers caught hold of my jaw as he pulled closer until his exhale mixed with my inhales.
“Mysterious, ugh? I like it.”
