The wheels of Mark’s truck left the pavement and rolled onto the freshly cut grass in the field across from the fairgrounds. He pulled in next to another pickup truck and parked it. They could hear the sound of the music blending with the laughter of children. “Let’s go have some fun,” he told her. He took her hand and she slid off the seat behind him. The smell of fried pickles and elephant ears overwhelmed them. “What do you want to do first?” he asked her. “I wanna see the animals.
