Chapter 22

Chapter 22 Shawn has been always by my side after our talk. Even Browdie, and is it just me or Browdie really has gotten a very strong dislike to everyone except Brent? Everytime Ivan or any other person comes near us, Browdie would growl and bark. Coffee keeps snuggling beside Browdie when we decide to sleep, and Browdie doesn't seem to mind. Ivan can't be around us because of Browdie. I know I sound cruel and all, but I like the distance between him and Shawn. He keeps glaring at me, though, like all he wants to do is castrate me and throw me into the lake. Cole keeps making fun of Ivan, telling him that he's just sexually frustrated. "I'm bored," London says in a bored tone, sighing out loud. He uses his power to play, forming a rock. He seems happy using his power until Beige tells him to stop. "Stop that," Beige says in a strict manner, which makes London stops immediately. He eyes Beige and rolls his eyes in annoyance, muttering something under his breath that we can't quite catch. "I'm sorry, just tone it down. It's noisy." He looks at Beige again and grins, but before he uses his power, he runs towards Beige and starts to talk. Meanwhile, Cooper is engaged in a conversation with Brent. He's making gestures, hands flying everywhere, and he seems to be trying to point out something Brent can't catch. Brent just keeps nodding, watching Cooper with curious eyes. Jelai, Albert, Mia and Giovanni are joking around about Mia being the smallest girl they've ever seen. Of course, Mia's laughing with them, though she's slightly irritated, not because of she's being making fun of, but because her height is really short and she can't do anything about it. She flips her hair with full of sass that makes Cole, even though he's too busy teasing Ivan, look at her with twinkling eyes. When their eyes meet, a blush forms on their cheeks and they both look away. "Ohmigosh," Jelai shrieks, grinning widely at Mia. Mia's cheeks get even redder, rolling her eyes at Jelai. Jelai bows her head down a little bit and whispers something in Mia's ear, which makes Mia purse her lips and begin to get uncomfortable. "I knew it, you like him!" Loud enough for everybody to hear. So Jelai. "Shut up, Jee!" She pushes Jelai and Jelai laughs maniacally. Cole is hearing everything but ignores it, instead, he continues to make fun of Ivan, who is still scowling at me. I playfully sway my butt, teasing him and I feel his eyes burning the back of my head. So much hate. Shawn looks at me with knowing eyes, amused to see me mocking Ivan. I give him a small smile, winking and he laughs in a very light way, only for me to hear. Even his laugh is perfect. "Beige and Cooper told me everything," I say to him, whispering. I want to have a conversation with him. More in the future. He looks at me again with confusion evident in his eyes, looking lost. "About you saving them many times. That's so heroic of you." "Everyone would have done the same," he counters, furrowing his brows, being lost in his thoughts. "But not when they know they're in danger as well," I say to him matter-of-factly. It's true, though. What he did for Cooper and Beige, they would have second thoughts on saving them if they knew that they're in danger as well, to know that they have a higher chance to die as well while saving them. But based on what Beige told me, Shawn saved them without any second thoughts, without any doubt or hesitation. That's very heroic for me. "What you did for them, it makes me proud of you. You know, even when you don't want to admit, the whole group looks up on you. You are our leader. You're leading us." "I'm no leader of yours," he says in a gruff voice, annoyed by God knows what. There's a sudden change in him; he seems tensed and angry. I didn't even say offensive to him. In fact, I just complimented him. "I'm no leader of this group." "But your actions say it otherwise," "f**k no," he looks at me with darkening eyes, hatred and fear swimming in his eyes that makes me gulp in fear. My body shakes because of his voice. His aura becomes different, making him look like a Devil. I take a step back a bit and calm my heart. I must have said something wrong for him to act this way. We were okay a few minutes ago. How did it come to this? I look forward, ignoring him. "Look, I'm sorry. Hey, look at me." So I do. I look at him right in the eyes and I'm surprised to see that his eyes are back to the color of peaceful sky, no trace of hatred. "I'm sorry if I offended you. I'll just shut up." "No, no, no. I like to hear your voice. Don't shut up." He says, voice strained and suddenly scared. He likes my voice. My heart picks up speed because of the new fact I've learned. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get mad at you. It's just that, something in my past happened about me... being a leader. I don't want it to happen again." "Do you want to share it with me?" I say hesitantly, afraid that he'd get angry at me. Instead, he gives me a sad smile and shakes his head. It's fine with me. "Soon, Dylan. I'll tell you everything you want to know." He promises. "I'll look forward to that promise," I say, smiling up at him widely. All of us stop when we see a bridge. The bridge is very long and the sea, it looks like a blood. I don't know if it looks that way because of the looking-like blood sky, or it's really blood. The point is, it's creepy as hell. The rails are rusted. There are cars and trucks that are park on middle of the road. We start to move, walking with alertness and falcon-like eyes, checking to see if there are any creatures about to attack us. But it seems there's nothing, so we continue to walk. I walk slowly, trying to decipher the odd look surrounding me until I'm behind all of them. The place looks like it had been productive for many years until something happened. The question is, what happened? Chill runs down through my spine, knowing that something really happened in this world. It looks like my friends ignore this all. They know as well something strange happened in this world, but I'm willing to unravel the truth. A voice inside my head tells me that this place was once a very beautiful place. My eyes find a strange thing in a very far distance above the sky. It looks like a black dot moving, but when it comes to view, my heart picks up a speed. This creature, it's big. This is no ordinary creature; it has wings, large ones, and deathly claws. This creature is a f*****g dragon. Its skin is black, eyes are red, fangs are very pointy. Shawn sees me looking at the creature and his eyes widen, commanding everyone to start running. My feet are stuck on the ground, as if it's glued, and I can't move at all. Shawn shouts at me and I look at him with fear in my eyes. He motions for me to run and then we both run, him a few meters ahead of me. Shawn keeps running, even becoming faster than me. My legs are hurting and I'm already panting. Since Shawn is very far away from him, I shout at him. He stops and looks over his shoulder. When his eyes meet mine, his eyes widen and when he's about to run into me, a dragon lands in between us. The dragon is really big, its nose releasing steamy air and his eyes, his eyes are so red. The dragon looks to me with knowing eyes, and the first sentence comes into my mind is: I don't want to die. Everyone starts attacking the dragon, which makes the dragon howl loud. I cover my ears, blocking the deafening sound that makes me want to bleed. The dragon flies up in the sky, and then he shots down, landing on the bridge, which causes the bridge to start cracking and me to stumble. My eyes follow the c***k forming beneath my feet and I start to get up, then run. The bridge starts to fall down, the metals supporting the bridge start to detach. I'm still far away from them, and I have a few time to get into them while the dragon is being distracted by them. The dragon breaths out fire, and Cole manipulates it. The dragon jumps again, which makes me stumble again, and the asphalt in front of me cracks and falls deep into the water. My eyes meet Shawn's, each mirror mine; worried and scared. The sea beneath us begins to wave wildly. I look at the bent rail, and the middle bridge starts to crumble, which makes my friends start backing away. The dragon has flown away. All of my friends are looking at me with scared eyes. Behind me, the creatures are starting to run forward, their eyes trained on me. Gulping and mustering a courage, I take a few steps back and run, jumping when I'm on the edge of the bridge and my hands catch the rusted rail and it bends down a bit more. Everyone gasps. I start to wiggle my body, upward and backward, just to gain more force to get into the other side of the bridge. And then the expected thing happens. The rusted rail detaches itself from the other rail, and we both fall into the water. I decide to use my power to control the water, but no, I can't. I can't control the water. Before I submerge into the sea of blood, my eyes see Shawn jumping after me. And then I become unconscious.
