Those With Green Eyes

800 Words
"Willa?", I heard a small voice call and instantly knew it was Silver. I threw the book I just started about our history down and ran to her voice. "Coming!", I replied as I ran out of my room and into the changing room that adjoined mine and Silvers room. I nearly ran directly into her as I rounded the corner making her fall back. "I'm so sorry Silver," I told her as I began to help her off the floor. "It's okay I just wish you would have answered before I started heading to your room," she replied simply in her small voice as she got to her feet. It wasn't until she was standing that I noticed how dressed up she was. She had an ocean blue long sleeved formal dress on. It was beautiful with a slim v-neck that ran just past her breast revealing the beauty mark that was just above her left breast. Her dress made her long silver hair and green eyes look mystical. "Why are you so dressed up?", I asked and she gave me a really look and didn't reply for a moment. "Don't tell me you really forgot about your own 16th birthday!" she squealed losing all the smallness that her voice normally held. I just stared at her blankly I had indeed forgotten all about my birthday. "Oh my... for the love of Mother Earth don't just stand there you have to get ready", she barked but before I could even move she was dragging me to the pool in the center of our changing room. I stripped out of my long sleeved green dress it wasn't anything fancy but Grandmother Willow insisted that all the women of royal blood should wear dresses. I slowly tested the water of the pool happily finding that Silver had already warmed it before jumping in I grabbed one of the many bowls that sat up on a small shelf beside the pool. The bowl was full of rose petals and I threw the whole thing in and placed the bowl back diving into the pool as I heard Silver say, " You better replace those rose petals this time!" "I'm sorry what was that", I teased and she rolled her eyes at me. Me and Silver had grown up as sisters. When my mother passed away giving birth to me. Silver's mother my Aunt Wisteria took me in. She had given birth to Silver just a month before I was born and was the only royal who had a child around the same time as my mother. There were other royals but they were much younger starting with Silver's younger sister Melody who was ten. There were four more children after that all Aunt Rose's children. I stayed in the pool as long as Silver would allow it by the time she was dragging me out my skin and began to wrinkle up. "You really shouldn't stay in the water that long," Silver said as she continued to help me dry my long curly blonde hair. I knew I shouldn't but I was dreading this day. My 16th birthday marked the day that I would find out if I was chosen by Mother Earth to be the next Princess. Before my mother had passed she was the Princess an everyone had high expectations for what would happen today especially after Silver was found not to be the one last month. I stayed quiet the entire time that Silver carefully beaded and then braided my crazy hair. She had a way of taming it that I would never understand. I had dressed in the emerald green dress Grandmother Willow had picked out for today. It was a beautiful dress, long sleeved with a slit up to my elbow lace covering my skin as well as low cut but just above my breast and also had lace there as well. The emerald green color of the long flowing dress brought out the green in my eyes. Emerald green was the color of the Witches as all royals had green eyes and it was Mother Earths color. "Are you ready?", Silver asked while handing me my black heels. I took them and put them on before looking up to Silver's knowing look. "Whatever happens it is okay just remember that," she told me. I knew she was right but my heart was threatening to beat out of my chest as I got up and began to head out through my room making my way down the corridors lit by lanterns in our underground tavern till I reached the main hall. I took a deep breath I am ready I told myself then entered the room to learn what Mother Earth had decided would be my fate.
