Moonbound Hearts Episode 2: Rumors Beneath the Full Moon The morning after their unexpected meeting felt different. As Selene Winter stepped through the gates of Ravenwood High, she could feel dozens of eyes following her every move. Students whispered as she passed, and several of them glanced toward the parking lot where a sleek black motorcycle had just arrived. Kael Ashwood removed his helmet and ran a hand through his dark hair. As usual, the crowd parted to let him through. His expression remained calm, but his sharp senses caught every whisper around him. "Did you hear? The Alpha walked Selene home yesterday." "I heard they were together after school." "They must be dating." Selene lowered her head, wishing she could disappear. She had never liked attention, and now the entire school seemed determined to make her the center of every conversation. Their first class passed quietly until the teacher announced the leadership project. "Today, every pair will begin researching together. You'll spend the afternoon working in the library." A chorus of groans echoed through the room. Kael glanced at Selene before standing. "Come on." She quickly gathered her books and followed him through the crowded hallway. The library was unusually quiet. They chose a table near the window, where sunlight spilled across stacks of books. For a few minutes, neither of them spoke. Selene concentrated on taking notes while Kael searched through reference books. Finally, Kael broke the silence. "You really don't talk much." Selene looked up. "I've always been shy." "You don't have to be around me." She gave a small smile. "I'm trying." For the first time, Kael smiled back. "That's enough." Hours passed as they worked side by side. Slowly, the awkward silence disappeared. They exchanged ideas, laughed over a mistake in an old history book, and even argued playfully about how to organize their presentation. Selene found herself smiling more than she had in weeks. Maybe everyone had misunderstood Kael. Maybe she had, too. When school finally ended, dark clouds covered the sky. "You should head home before it rains," Kael said. "What about you?" "I've got something to take care of." She nodded before walking toward the school gate. From a nearby rooftop, someone watched them through binoculars. A girl with long silver hair folded her arms. "So that's the future Luna." Her eyes narrowed. "I don't approve." She disappeared before anyone noticed. That evening, Kael entered the dense forest surrounding Ravenwood. The cool wind carried unfamiliar scents through the trees. His wolf immediately became alert. Someone was inside Shadow Fang territory. Kael followed the trail until he reached a clearing. Standing there was a massive rogue wolf with glowing crimson eyes. "You've crossed into my land," Kael said calmly. The rogue laughed. "So the young Alpha finally shows himself." Without another word, the rogue lunged forward. Kael shifted in an instant. Dark fur burst from his body as he transformed into a powerful black wolf. The forest echoed with growls as the two wolves clashed beneath the full moon. Branches snapped beneath their weight. The rogue fought wildly, but Kael remained focused. After several fierce attacks, Kael pinned the rogue to the ground. "Leave," he growled. "If you ever threaten this pack again, I won't show mercy." The rogue slowly backed away before disappearing into the darkness. Kael returned to his human form, breathing heavily. Something wasn't right. Rogue wolves never entered Shadow Fang territory without a reason. Someone had sent him. Miles away, Selene stood on the balcony outside her bedroom. She couldn't stop thinking about Kael. Every warning her parents had given her told her to stay away from him. But every conversation she had shared with him told a different story. "He isn't the monster everyone says he is," she whispered. At that exact moment, a strange warmth spread through the silver moon-shaped birthmark on her wrist. She gasped softly. The mark had never glowed before. Hidden inside an abandoned church, the mysterious figure watched a glowing map of the werewolf territories. "The bond has awakened," he said with a smile. "Excellent." He placed his hand over a black crystal pulsing with dark energy. "The Moon Goddess has chosen her Alpha and Luna..." "But before they discover the truth..." "I'll make sure they lose everything." Lightning flashed across the night sky as thunder shook Ravenwood. Unaware of the danger closing in, Kael looked toward the same moon that Selene was watching. Neither of them realized that destiny had already begun pulling their hearts together. And somewhere in the darkness... Someone was preparing to tear them apart. To Be Continued...
