Alexandre's POV
Theo went to bed at seven-forty.
He had sensed something — not the specifics, but the quality of the evening. Children read atmosphere the way adults read documents. He had been quieter than usual at dinner. Less negotiation over the pasta. At bath time he had looked at me over the water and said: "Is everything okay."
"Papa and I have work to do tonight," Claire had said. "Important work."
He had accepted this. Asked whether Gerald Two had been checked recently. The conversation had moved to worms and stayed there until the ship bed and the lighthouse wall and sleep.
We were at the kitchen table by eight-fifteen.
Claire had three printed documents — the 2015 transaction file, the settlement agreement, and the foundation's annual report. The last one surprised me.
