ANOTHER TWO WEEKS passed before the last of the reporters finally disappeared. A Hollywood starlet got videoed in Richmond snorting something she shouldn’t, and they all hightailed it after her. It was almost a shame. Pippa and I had just got used to the extra help with walking the dogs again.
The day after they left, I put Douglas’s house on the market. The realtor, a friend of Mama’s, twittered on and on about landscaping, square footage, and soft furnishings until I wanted to stick a corkscrew in my ear.
“Please, just take whatever price you’d normally market it for and knock a hundred thousand off. Two, if it’ll make it sell faster.”
