CHAPTER 30 A GLANCE AT the glowing hands on my watch showed it was almost five in the afternoon. Three hours had passed since Mitch put me in this hole, and now I was stuck here. When would he come back? I’d found a flashlight at the bottom of the steps, and the stack of canned goods and bottled water in the corner meant I wouldn’t starve right away—there was a can opener, thank goodness—but that wouldn’t last forever. And the bucket in the corner was slightly alarming. Was I expected to pee in that? If so, death seemed the more appealing prospect. I turned off the flashlight to save the batteries, and also so I wouldn’t have to look at the bucket anymore.
