CHAPTER 36 XAV PUFFED ALONG behind Emmy like a couch potato with a New Year’s resolution. It was seven a.m. and she’d woken him up at four to go running. He’d picked her up and deposited her outside, bolting the door behind her, but the little witch snuck around the back and climbed through a window. So here he was, twenty-two miles into what Emmy termed a gentle morning jog. Why hadn’t he brought a gun so he could shoot her and her perky attitude and go back to bed? He’d much preferred Georgia’s wake-up calls—coffee and a sweet treat for breakfast.
