23 Sam and I spent the next several days together, except when we needed to go to work. We laughed, we talked, and we made love. It was a glorious, happy time, as long as I didn’t think about his big-time plans for my sleepy, little town. I should have known that the protective cocoon that we had crafted for just the two of us couldn’t last. We were in my bed eating a not-so-healthy snack of corn chips and canned, squeeze cheese, when Sam said the words that burst our two-person bubble of isolation and pleasure. “So, I was thinking that maybe it is time for you to come with me to a family event.
