“I'm sorry” was a phrase Lexa struggled to utter. Shame washed over her as she realized her emotions were bringing misfortune to those around her.
“That's exactly the problem, Lexa,” Jaded replied, a steely edge to her voice. “I don’t want your apologies. What I need is for you to take a step back. Quit your job at Alexander’s and get the hell out of his life. Trust me, you'd be doing me a huge favor.”
Lexa felt a rush of emotions, her chest tightening at Jade's request. She wanted to scream, to fight back, yet she found herself frozen, her mind racing with contradictory thoughts.
