22 GRAYSON Lady R plucked a blue mirror out from the chamber wall. Then she activated it, making the frame glow with sapphire light. So far, no big deal. Then, I look inside. What I see makes every cell of my body freeze. The mirror shows a room that looks like it’s carved out of the lost knot of a massive tree. My heart cracks. This is my home. My root heart. Even more, I remember this particular chamber. It’s my bedroom. The world takes on a supernatural sheen. This scene is from my life before the Bartlebee. Magic swirls inside me. I summon the power. Green fire erupts around my hand. In my deepest soul, I want nothing more than to see the room again. Some small part of me starts commenting again. This time, that part points out that I really don’t know what this mirror is or
