Chapter 10

It sounded like Ivan was there. Then I also heard another voice, but I didn't know who it was. It looked like the voice had changed.

'Hi, I wanted to ask if you could come to me, but you seem busy? I will ask another time.'

I heard his breathing go faster when his heart rate went up, and I knew he had to let Sky almost in the upper hand.

Ava also tried to get my control, but I told her, 'Come easy and go to the back of my head.' Still it didn't really work. She just kept trying to get control.

'I want to come so badly, but now is just not the moment.'

'I understand. See you tomorrow at school?'

'Yeah, of course why not?'

I got shy and quickly said, 'bye.'

Then I hit the red button on my phone screen and the line broke between us. I felt everything go back to normal and Ava became easier to handle.

She was tired, so she didn't say much about me hanging the phone up just like that.

Then, instead of hanging around with Marnik around the house, I had to study. Otherwise, I wouldn't make this year and it was almost the end. I hope after Easter my summer grades will also go up. I didn't want to stay in high school, I wanted to go to university. Just like everyone. I still had to give up where I wanted to go. Maybe I would study in Forks or somewhere in America if that was an option in Belgium. I hoped so because it was my dream to study in America. Now I had to study hard to get to that point.

I studied till I saw everything dubble. That was also when my parents came home from work. They seemed to have worked till late. I hoped my mom would be less angry than this morning. I went downstairs to meet my mom's angry face again. It was not the same anger anymore. There was also a place for interest now.

'Did you study?'

'I did. I even see everything twice now.'

'That's good, that means that is enough for today.' My mom said.

'Go to sleep now Tiene, and no phone till you wake up.'

I wanted to protest, but she made the mad face again.

'OK, here you go.'

I gave her my phone with an irritated look on my face.

Still, I hoped I would get my phone back tomorrow.

I went upstairs like normal even if I was angry and when I lay on my bed I fell asleep directly. Feeling another memory of the past coming. Since my head hurt so much that it felt like it was going to break.

Little me was jumping on a trampoline and my mom was looking at me. There were also two men surrounding my mom. One kissed her and they went inside. I didn't know where they went, but after a while I went looking for my mom. Because the other man just took off. When I went in my mom's room, there were the lifeless bodies of both the men and my mom. There was no blood and no wounds when I checked. They both died of the curse. How could it be that I thought it was just the wrong soulmate who died. That life had something else for my mom back then.

I hoped it would change again or even better, that I could break the curse.

I woke up again, bathing in sweat and with a big headache. Before I took a shower, I gave everything a thought. Why did my mom die like that? Maybe the other man had something to do with it. Maybe the other man was my dad or not? Would the other man be my dead then they were both dead. From one side it would be easier for me. Then I didn't have to find them, and then I could just go on with my life.

At school, I met Marnik in the locker room just to make out. We both knew the consequences of the curse if we did more than that.

Still, Marnik tried to touch me in other places. How much I wanted that it couldn't happen.

Marnik don't, it's too dangerous.

'Sorry I don't have control over it.' He said playfully.

He started to kiss me playfully again and that went on for a while.

The first bel signal kicked us back to reality, and we went to class.

Luckily, I was on time because Mrs. Dom would give me detention again if I was too late for her class.

It was a rush, but I made it.

Every human still looked at me when I came in without being out of breath. One of them said, "You are like a super woman. How did you change so fast, just a day after Ellen went missing? How is that even possible?'

Then Mrs. Dom came inside and gave the boy an angry glare who asked about the condition I didn't had before, and then she started class.

My day at school was almost done. Then I thought again about Ellen who still hadn't come back on her own.

Would it be true that she is pregnant or not? I still thought it could be true.

Someone touched my arm and I didn't see who it was.

'Who are you?' I asked, yelling.
