Chapter 4: Zombie Elevator

1094 Words
Before long, the screams abruptly stopped. Sitting against the door, Qiqi heard the sound of the door opening across the hall. She quickly covered her mouth tightly, holding her breath, not daring to make a sound. Rhythmic footsteps sounded, stopping at her door. Qiqi's body stiffened, cold sweat trickling down her forehead. She could feel the strong oppressive presence from outside the door; Bo Lijue was standing right at her doorstep. Only a door separated them. Qiqi clutched the sheet draped over her, her knuckles turning white. Those few seconds felt like centuries to her. Fortunately, the footsteps resumed, and Bo Lijue left her door. Only when it was completely quiet outside did Qiqi dare to lower her hand from her mouth, gasping for air. She then shakily got up, dragging her numb feet, and once again peered through the peephole. The hallway was now empty, and the door across the hall was wide open. The corridor was eerily quiet, so silent that she could only hear her own pounding heartbeat. Seeing the door across the hall left open, Qiqi, as if possessed, opened her own door and quietly walked over. The smell of blood was overwhelming, growing stronger as she approached. She slowly reached the doorway, her shoes soaking in blood. When she met the lifeless eyes of the woman on the floor, Qiqi was so frightened that she fell to the ground, her face pale and bloodless, her whole body trembling. She suddenly turned her head and vomited. The woman's mouth was torn, her jaw hanging by a strip of skin, her tongue ripped out, blood dripping onto the floor. Her body was torn to pieces, her heart, liver, intestines, and lungs scattered everywhere. Seeing her bulging, bloodshot eyes, one could tell how much pain she endured before dying. Thinking that all this was done by Bo Lijue, Qiqi felt a chill down her spine, horrified. She scrambled back into her house, slamming the door shut, and began changing the door code. But her fingers were shaking so much that she failed several times. Finally, drenched in sweat, she managed to change the code. She added several locks behind the door, but still felt unsafe, so she pushed the dining table, sofa, and even the refrigerator to block the door. Exhausted and panting heavily, she finally stopped. Seeing the securely blocked door, Qiqi let out a heavy sigh, her heart temporarily at ease. She didn't know if Bo Lijue would return, but even if he did, he surely couldn't get in now. ………… The mall. It was a scene of chaos, goods scattered everywhere, bloodstains, and severed limbs. Some people, ignoring the danger, frantically collected supplies, while others wielded machetes, fighting zombies. Whenever someone fell, the zombies would swarm over, devouring them clean. One after another, shrill screams echoed in the mall, attracting more nearby zombies. At times, people would push their companions to block the zombies, buying themselves a chance to survive. The world was in utter chaos. Amidst this extreme chaos, a tall, handsome man walked into the mall. Unlike others, he wasn't panicked or hiding, nor was he like other zombies, pouncing on people, bloodthirsty and violent. He walked through the mall like a wealthy young master shopping, with an extraordinary demeanor. In fact, Bo Lijue was there to shop, heading straight to the clothing section on the fifth floor. The clothing section wasn't as chaotic as the food section, with several zombies wandering around, but no people in sight. Most people headed straight to the food section in malls, rarely visiting the clothing section. So the zombies here were all starving, and Bo Lijue's arrival caught their attention. Realizing he was one of them, the zombies dispersed in disappointment. With no people in the clothing section, it saved Bo Lijue a lot of trouble, making it easier for him to move. He casually pulled over a large suitcase, wandering between brand counters, packing any pretty dresses he saw into the suitcase. Bo Lijue was on a shopping spree, while the zombie ladies in store uniforms turned a blind eye. Before long, the large suitcase was packed full, so Bo Lijue grabbed another empty suitcase and continued packing. Only when the second suitcase was also full did he stop. He pushed the two suitcases out of the clothing section. The mall hadn't lost power yet, and the elevator was still running. When the elevator doors opened, several zombies were inside, feasting on a corpse. The sound of bones and flesh being gnawed was chilling. Anyone else would have run away in fear, but Bo Lijue remained unfazed, pulling his suitcases into the zombie-filled elevator. The feeding zombies glanced up, saw he was one of them, and resumed eating. Bo Lijue stood at the front of the elevator, hands resting on the suitcase handles, calmly waiting for the elevator to descend to the first floor. "Ding," the elevator stopped on the third floor, and the doors slowly opened. Outside the elevator, a disheveled man and woman were anxiously pressing the elevator button, with a dozen zombies clawing towards them from afar. When the elevator doors opened, the man and woman saw Bo Lijue and let out a heavy sigh of relief, fearing it was a zombie-filled elevator. Bo Lijue's eyes were downcast, and in their panic, the man and woman didn't see clearly. Seeing his tall, well-dressed figure, they instinctively thought he was human, and with zombies chasing them, they were desperate to leave. They entered the elevator, avoiding the front, moving inside. Upon seeing the group of zombies crouched inside, gnawing on a corpse, the man and woman widened their eyes in terror, their faces turning pale. Bo Lijue's tall figure and the two large suitcases had blocked their view of the zombies inside. "Ahhh..." The man and woman were pounced on by zombies, letting out desperate screams. Blood splattered on the elevator walls, slowly trickling down. Standing at the front, Bo Lijue remained unaffected, calmly extending a slender finger to press the elevator close button. The elevator doors closed, sealing in the screams, and the elevator continued its descent. "Ding" This time, the elevator successfully reached the first floor. When the doors opened, Bo Lijue pushed the two suitcases out of the blood-stained elevator. The zombies lingering at the elevator entrance, smelling the blood, rushed in, devouring the food. The elevator doors closed, carrying the zombie-filled elevator upwards. The person waiting for the elevator upstairs had no idea they were about to encounter a fully loaded zombie elevator.
