Molly’s POV
Seeing all my friends together at my house to celebrate my birthday was what I needed today. I’ve been studying my ass off, going to bed early, boycotting alcohol and avoiding any type of dating. Seeing Allie pull out that tiny dress made me nervous at first, but I will not back down tonight. I take a swig of liquid courage from the open champagne bottle sitting on the counter. Taking a deep breath, I announced “Let’s f*****g do this”. All the girls start cheering and pouring drinks. Allie drags me back to my room and pulls my tangled brown hair out from its messy bun and begins brushing it out while the curling iron is getting hot. Shauna comes running in the room carrying the makeup bag Allie had brought with her. I used to wear a lot of makeup back in high school. These days I’m too exhausted to keep up with applying make-up, so I just wear a little mascara when I can remember. Shauna starts moisturizing my face and then adding some foundation. Afterwards, she adds some blush. “Molly, you have such beautiful blue eyes, it’s time to show them off”. I watched Shauna go for the charcoal-colored eyeshadow and begin brushing my eyelids. I kept my eyes closed till she had announced “finished!, and voilà!”. I opened my eyes and looked in my mirror. “Holy s**t, I don’t even look like myself!” I cheered. Allie frowns, “of course you do, we hardly did anything. You just never put in enough effort to look like this, you are naturally beautiful Molly, but now, you are freaking hot girl!”. I turn around and hugged my friends, “Thank you guys, now if I’m going to wear that dress tonight, I might need a few more drinks to get the courage to put it on!” As we all walked to the kitchen for some more beverages, the front door flew open, “I’m here! All you bitches better have saved some champagne for me!” as Jill erupted into the room announcing her presence. “You made it!” I ran over to Jill and jump on her as we both collapsed on the couch behind her. I haven’t seen Jill since I visited home last Christmas break. Even though we don’t see each other often, I still talk to her almost every day. “Girl, you look hot! You already to go?” We all took a few quick shots of tequila. After getting some alcohol in my system, I run back into my room to throw my dress on and end up finding Benson looking very unhappy on my bed. “Aww Benson, you bummed your missing out?” Benson looks at my dress and back at me in a very disapproving manner. I don’t understand it, but somehow this dog and I seem to understand each other very well. He is very good at letting me know when he does and doesn’t approve of something. I gave Benson a quick kiss on the head and turned around to start changing into my dress. As I’m in my underwear, I look back at Benson, who has completely changed positions on the bed and looking away from me like he usually does when I’m getting dressed, “Always a gentleman, you are Benson”. Benson just gives me an annoyed “huff” and continues to be looking elsewhere. As I finish flattening out the wrinkles in my dress and slip on my matching heels, I turn around towards Benson “Well what do you think?”, Benson looks at me now and is eyes travel up and down my body. His body has gone completely still and his eyes begin to turn a dark shade of black. “You okay buddy?” I reach out to touch Benson but instead he jumps off the bed and runs out my bedroom door. That was weird. I reached for my purse and give myself one more look over in the mirror. Dang, I’m not one to usually brag, but I do look hot right now. I head out to the front room, give a shout out to Benson that I’ll be back and, follow all my friends out the door for my birthday celebration.
Travis’s POV
As I’m packing up my things in the office so I can finally head home, I get a phone call from an unknown number on the landline. “Beta Travis, speaking”, I mumbled into the phone. “Yes, may I speak to Alpha Wyatt please?” a man whispers into the phone. “Sorry but he is out of the office still, could I take a message?” the line goes silent for about 30 seconds. “Is he with his Luna?” the voice continues but instead of whispering he begins to laugh. Which is freaking me out a bit, but not only because of the laugh, but the fact that Drew and I and a couple of trustworthy warriors are the only ones who should know about Molly. “I’m not sure what your talking about sir, may I ask your name please?”, the man continues to laugh “Molly is special you know? And she will be part of my collection very soon”. The man is still laughing and the phone suddenly disconnects. “s**t!”. I know I won’t be able to get ahold of Alpha right now, but this is an emergency. I can send Drew there and he should be able to make it to the city within two hours. I decide to mind link the Gamma, “Drew!” I try to sound urgent so he will quickly respond. “What’s going on, sub-alpha?” Drew responds after a couple minutes sounding restless. “The Alpha is going to need you, please drive to the city now. I give him a brief breakdown of my phone conversation with the psycho and tell him that he needs to let Alpha know. “I’ll give you the spare key to the apartment office and you can track his collar with an app on the computer”. Drew is already out leaving the pack house by the time I’ve finished my order through the link. “I’ll call you when I get there Travis”. And the link becomes disconnected now that he’s driven off the territory. I recall the strangers'comments about Molly being special and decided I was not going to be able to sleep now till I knew that the Alpha and Luna are safe. I sat back down at my desk and pulled out Molly’s family file. As I open up the file, I see that it’s recently been updated with new information without my attention. Molly’s brother Zach is now attending college out of state. Her sister Jacey is now in 8th grade, Kelly is still working as a teacher and Mike still runs his own automotive repair company. I look deeper into Mike's file and noticed something that was not in there before. A photo of a younger Mike Mello was clipped on the front of an old newspaper clipping. “Alright Mike, what are you hiding?”
