But the moment I opened it, my smile dropped, the colour draining from my face. “Mother…” I mumbled, staring down at the short, immaculately dressed woman standing before me. Red lipstick and designer sunglasses perched just below her perfectly sculpted eyebrows—I could recognise her from a mile away.
