Aria’s Point of View
“She’s not going anywhere.”
We all turned to see Chloe, standing boldly in the doorway. She looked at her mother and Alpha Viktor with a gaze I’d never seen before.
Lilian’s face was filled with rage. “Chloe, return to the house at once!” She yelled.
But Chloe didn’t budge. She looked at Viktor directly as she spoke. “Alpha Viktor, if you lay a hand on Aria, I will personally see to it that your alliance with our pack is severed.”
Viktor’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Lilian, but she remained silent. She clenched her fist tightly. Chloe’s words held weight because she was, after all, the future of this pack. And despite her youth, she had already gained the respect and loyalty of many.
Finally, Viktor let out a cold laugh. “Very well. It seems you have not finalized the deal. Prepare my package before two days. See you later.” He turned and walked out through the gate, and he disappeared into the night.
The silence that followed was suffocating. Lilian glared at Chloe before speaking. “This is far from over. I warned you, Chloe. I warned you about showing pity for those beneath you. You’re a disappointment.”
With that, Lilian left, leaving Chloe and me alone. Chloe turned to me and pulled me into a hug. “I won’t let them do this to you, Aria,” she whispered. “As long as I’m here, you’re safe.”
I hugged her, still feeling the weight of everything and I couldn’t shake off the sense that this was only the beginning of a much larger storm. We walked hand in hand back to the main house.
*****
The next morning came with a sense of quiet tension that filled every corner of the pack house. I rose early, wearing my worn clothes, and headed to Chloe’s room to begin the day’s tasks. Cleaning was something I could do almost mindlessly now, a rhythm that kept me stable despite the chaos of last night.
As I scrubbed the floors, I couldn’t stop replaying the scene at the north gate in my mind; Lilian’s words, Alpha Viktor’s stare, and Chloe’s bravery in facing them both. It was still hard to believe that Chloe had risked so much for me.
Just as I began cleaning a shelf, I heard heavy footsteps behind me. Turning, I saw two guards approaching. Their expressions were hard. Without a word, they grabbed one of my arms each. The grip was more forceful than usual, and I immediately felt a twist of fear in me.
“What’s… what’s happening?” I managed to talk, trying to keep up as they dragged me down the hall. “Where are you taking me?”
The guards remained silent and they continued dragging me. My mind raced as I tried to think of what I could have done to warrant this treatment. I wanted to believe Chloe’s words that everything would be fine, but the harsh pull of the guards said otherwise.
They led me through the corridors until we reached the grand hall. As soon as we entered, my eyes met the cold stares of Lilian, Alpha Lupa, and Viktor, who stood waiting. I became anxious, and I tried to pull away, but the guards tightened their grip, and they forced me to stand before them.
Lilian looked at me with disgust. “You really thought you were safe already, didn’t you?” Her tone was mocking, and she smiled with satisfaction.
“Luna Lilian, please… I haven’t done anything wrong,” I pleaded. “Why are you doing this to me?”
Alpha Lupa remained silent, but his gaze was cruel. Viktor, who was standing beside him, folded his arms.
“Because, Aria,” Lilian sneered, “you have no place in this pack omega. You’re a burden to the pack and my family, we’re done with you.”
At that, Viktor signaled to his men, who stepped forward, their expressions were not different from the guards who had brought me here. The realization hit me harder. This wasn’t just punishment, they were handing me over. Selling me, as if I was nothing more than property.
I struggled against the guards’ hold as I pleaded. “Please, I beg you. Let me speak to Chloe. She… she’ll understand. She wouldn’t want this.”
Lilian let out a humorless laugh, folding her arms across her chest. “Chloe?” She looked down at me before speaking. “Chloe is none of your concern, Aria. I’ve already sent her away to a friend’s house for the day. I didn’t need her interfering with anything.”
My heart sank. They had made sure Chloe wouldn’t be here to stop this. They had this planned out.
“Please,” I choked out as I was about to speak. “Luna Lilian, I’ll do anything you want. Just… just don’t do this. I’ve served you all my life. Please…”
Viktor’s men approached, and I tried to step back, but the guards held me firmly. Viktor smiled as he looked at me. “Begging won’t change anything, little girl. You’re coming with me, whether you like it or not.”
I fought against the guards’ grip, but it was futile. The men’s hold on me was like iron, my strength was nothing compared to theirs and my pleas fell on deaf ears.
“Please, Alpha Lupa,” I tried one last time, looking up at him, hoping for some mercy in his eyes. “You don’t have to do this.”
But Alpha Lupa’s gaze remained cold. Lilian rolled her eyes, clearly irritated by the way I was resisting. “Enough of this pathetic display. Take her, Viktor. She’s all yours.”
With that, Viktor’s men stepped forward and grabbed me from the guards. I fought to keep my footing as they began dragging me out of the hall. I looked over my shoulder, trying to catch one last glimpse of Lilian and Alpha Lupa. But their expressions were empty, they were unaffected.
As they pulled me toward the exit, I screamed, “Chloe! Chloe, please, help me!”
But there was no answer. Viktor’s men covered my mouth with their hands as they dragged me farther away from the pack. The only home I have ever known.
