Nevaeh

1936 Words
Five days.         Four whole days and five nights.                 Hours upon hours have gone by without one sign of my bull-headed mate.                 If I was broken before, now I was nothing but a shell. Luckily, the first day a woman named Yana gave me a pair of shorts to wear so I wasn’t in my panties anymore. The second day some older man left a bucket for me to use the bathroom with, and the third and fourth were upsettingly quiet. Now, were on the fifth day and all hell was about to break loose.                     “Nevaeh? Nevaeh?! Baby, wake up.”                 I opened my eyes to see Yana in front of me with a worried look on her pretty face. “I’m still alive.”                 She let out a sigh of relief. “Oh thank the Goddesses. I’m going to get you out of these chains today.”                 “Yana…It’s no use. He wants me to die out here.” I said closing my eyes again.                 “Nevaeh! No, you’re not allowed to fall asleep again. I’m scared if you do, you won’t wake up.” Yana whimpered, cupping my face in her hands.                 I shrugged the best I could. “It’s okay. If I die, then that i***t will finally know what he wants. And I’ll be free of these chains.”                 Yana sighed. “Sterling Laken has always been…ruthless in his own right. I’m not making excuses for him and his actions, but the man was abused by the former Alpha. He was this small sweet boy, even through his teens, but when he hit fifteen his father lost his mate and Alpha Laken’s mother. He became cruel, and twisted that sweet kid into a monster. When Alpha Laken’s father died, he seemed to darken into the being he is today. He is harsh, unforgiving, and distrusting. Maybe we need to do something for him to trust you?”                 “Yana, he wants one thing. He wants for me to shift and to know that we are mates, and then he’ll kill me. I’m not going to give him what he wants. Plus, I’m too weak to shift now. I haven’t heard my Dire spirit in two days. I’m sure I’m going to die soon.” I groaned a little at my pain. Everything was starting to get numb, and I was sure I was fading.                 She shot to her feet. “No! That can’t happen! You did nothing wrong?! I’m going to go talk to him.”                 “No!” I tried to get up, but yeah… “He will kill you! No, Yana!”                 Yana shrugged. “It doesn’t matter, I don’t have a mate and my whole family was killed several years ago when ferals attacked. You’re the first friend I’ve had in a very long time. I’m not going to let him do this to you. If he lets you die, he will become nothing but a man with a title. His Dire could reject him, and then what? We’re without a proper Alpha over his pride? I rather die trying to help my pack, then live knowing I watched and did nothing while an innocent woman died.”                 She turned and took off towards what the pack very ironically refers to as the Sanctuary House. But the closer Yana got, the more I feared for her safety. Please, no…I need strength. I need to break from these chains.                 ‘I know you can hear me. If we have some sort of backdoor trick that you know of, please tell me. I’m willing to do it.’ I begged my spirit, hoping she heard me.                 I watched as Yana climbed the steps to the front door.                 ‘I have something, but…’                 Happy to hear from her I smiled. ‘I don’t care anymore. Just tell me.’                 She sighed. ‘I can force a change onto you. It will hurt, but it will be considerably fast. The downside is that…you will have to give Sterling what he wants and it might just kill us.’                 I rolled my eyes. “Of course. I didn’t expect anything less.”                 The second that door opened I closed my eyes. ‘Shift me, now.’                 ‘Yes, Nevaeh.’                 The moment I started shifting, I was able to contort out of the cuffs before my bones broke from the angle. I felt a burning pain, like I was lying in a fire pit. Everything hurt, but it simmered down into just a dull ache. Before I knew it, I was on all fours and running after Yana.                 I let out a slight bark to get her attention. Her eyes lit up before Sterling pushed his way by her in true Dire Wolf form, eyes locked onto mine. I stopped dead in my tracks, the look in his eyes was something I never expected.                 Softness.                 That was the first word that came to my mind. The moment my eyes met his it was like the world stopped for a second to let two moons collide. My whole being was being drawn to him, and what I was assuming was my Dire side, wanted me to submit to him without question. I wonder if Sterling felt like this too? I wonder if he felt more since he was pure Dire? With the way he was acting before, maybe he felt less. Maybe I was only feeling this strongly because I was half Dire, half Witch?                 ‘Spirit? How can I communicate with him?’ I asked as he began to circle me.                 I did my best to keep an eye on him, but I had a feeling this was about to get intense.                 ‘I can try to open a link with is Dire Wolf spirit, but I don’t know if he will be listening.’ My spirit said quickly.                 ‘What is he doing? Why is he stalking me like this?’                 My spirit seemed to hesitate. ‘He’s…Nevaeh…I’m opening up the link now. He can explain it to you better than I.’                 Confused, I waited. My eyes followed Sterling as he walked a slow and steady pace around me. Then like a snap of a rubber band, I felt something. It had to be the link. So, let’s try it out.                 (Can you hear me?) I asked simply. I didn’t know what else to say.                 Sterling’s ears perked up a little. (Yeah, I can.)                 I rolled my eyes internally. (You got what you wanted. Now, are you going to let me go? And stop circling me like a vulture.)                 (I had every intention of letting you leave after confirming that you were not my mate and that the scent was wrong. It happens, but it seems I wasn’t. You, are my mate.) He said, leaning in a little to take in my scent.                 I shied away from him, my energy to stay in this form was exhausting. (So what. It doesn’t change anything. Let me go.)                 (Your scent, is mixed with fire. That’s the scent of a witch. But, you’re a Dire? My mate is a teenage hybrid?) Sterling took a few steps closer to me, and I was aware he was closing in on me.                 Before I could say anything, I collapsed to the dirt, shifting back into my naked humanoid form. “Again, not your mate.”                 Sterling turned back too. “You are, whether you like it or not. You’ll have time to get used to it.”                 “What’s that supposed to mean? Oh no, I’m not staying here.” I said shaking my head.                 He just stared with a nothingness on his face. “You’re not leaving either.”                 I growled. “You said you would kill me or let me go! What happened to that?”                 Sterling shrugged. “I also said I might keep you.”                 “Why? Why would you do that?” I pleaded, hoping he would come to see how stupid of a decision that would be.                 He glanced over his shoulder at me. “For now, you stay. If you run, all my Dire instincts will tell me to chase my mate down. I guarantee you won’t like what will happen when I catch you.”                 I felt a red creep onto my cheeks from the thought of what could happen in that situation. “Then I won’t run, I’ll walk and you will be the one to tell me I can. Please.”                 Sterling growled as he turned around. Before I realized what was happening, my back was in the dirt and he was over me with blacked out eyes and elongated fangs. This should have scared me, but instead it only made my center throb. “It’s taking everything in me from marking you as mine and placing myself in you! So, stop! Stop asking to leave me, or I’m going to lose all control to my wolf and end up forcing you.”                 Seeing the slight sadness in his empty green eyes, I let out a deep breath. “Okay…I’m right here under you. Right here, big daddy. Take a deep breath, it’ll help.”                 He closed his eyes and leaned down to place his face in the crook of my neck. “Your arousal is not helping me stop myself, a chroí.”                 “I’m not…shut up.” I stammered out, just slightly realizing we are both naked with only an inch of space separating us.                 Sterling shocked my body when he ran his tongue across a spot on my neck that send waves of pleasure through me. “Why did it have to be you.”                 “Because the universe sucks, now, get off me. I’m not leaving at the moment, so you can relax.” I muttered, trying my best to remember that I hated this man.                 ‘Do we? Hate him I mean?’ My spirit asked, her poor voice seemed more confused than I was.                 ‘We do. He’s held up captive here with no food and little water, we were almost raped by three guys, and I think we have fleas.’ I said, but something was wrong with my words. ‘Is it the mate bond making me feel like this? I don’t like it.’ I said to her in a small voice.                 ‘Yes, and it will get stronger and harder to resist the longer your exposed to him. What if he’s not as bad as we assumed?’ She whispered.                 I shrugged at her. ‘Do we even want to find out? I wish I didn’t feel like this…’                 “What is your name?”                 Sterling’s voice brought me back, and that’s when I noticed he had moved off me. I looked up to him, well aware that he was naked and towering over my clothes less body. “Nevaeh. It’s Nevaeh. And I'm eighteen, not a teenager.”                 His face stayed blank, but in his eyes, I saw a hint of gentle to them. “Nevaeh…”                 My whole body shuddered when my name rolled off his thick Irish accent, and it took everything in me to remember that…I hate him.                 It seemed I wasn’t the only one having an inside battle. Sterling’s eyes flickered dark before returning to normal. He let out a deep breath, but there was somethings apparently that weren’t easy to control. I gulped down seeing his shaft was semi hard, and looking massive for a semi hard on. Inside my wolf spirit was practically panting, and I had to look away to remember…I hate him.                 When Sterling was gone, I let out a slight whimper. My whole body hurt, and I could barely move. I only looked up when I heard footsteps approaching me.                 “It’s just me, Nevaeh.” Yana said softly.                 I smiled up at her. “Do you happen to have a spare blanket or big shirt?”                 She shook her head at me. “I’m taking you home with me. Alpha Laken didn’t say I couldn’t.”                 “Cheeky.” I said with a smile.
