Janus called the goblin chief out of the trapdoor for a meeting of terms. The goblin hesitated for a moment but came up after they assured him that he would not be hurt.   They were to end this meet under peaceful terms.   Kazzuk peered out of the hatch to see a band of armed men surrounding him. He dropped his tiny dagger down the ladder, adjusted his feather headdress, and climbed up to talk.   Kazzuk eagerly listened to Janus' terms.   The goblins will forge tools for the manor, as well as create better technology for the farms. They will be paid accordingly for their services and will be protected the same as any other worker in its walls. They will be given their own place to work and their own settlements. They will be entitled to the same amount of daily rations that is served to the workers.   The goblin scoffed at this offer, saying they don't want any human food but quickly changed his mind after Janus handed him a pack of bread.   "Bready. This is wonderful Bready!" Kazzuk said.   Janus smiled. Even Yvaine softened a bit. These weren't creatures to fear. They had their own unique traits and quirks. As Janus saw it, they were just as capable of good and evil as humans are.   "I agree, but Kazzuk has more terms that the princey and his men must follow."   Arthan heaved a sigh. Master Oswald looked slighted.   "Say it then."   "There are more goblins out there, the band that you see here is just one of the few that was scattered by the rebellion at Lord Padron's Manor. We ask that you allow us to find them, and allow them to stay with us. Also, Adduk is personally attached to his workshop. I ask that you allow us to use this cave as another place to live in."   "How many are still out there?" Janus asked.   "Around a hundred, formed in bands just like us."   This made Janus even more excited. # The addition of goblins to the Manor had a bit of a learning curve.   The serfs hated the goblins, and Janus couldn't blame them for it. A few possessions and livestock had been lost during the last months. Arthan had his work cut out for him, but a bit of consoling from Janus and a few bonuses to the serfs made them ease up a bit. Janus promised to pay back what the goblins had taken away.   The goblins stayed at their hideout while they made tools for the farmers. Janus picked an area near the border of the fields for their homes, but he decided to wait for things to cool down a bit between the two groups before they built any structures.   After the first batch of tools finished production, things started getting better.   The serfs found their work was now much easier. With better tools that they didn't break too easily and having someone else to clean and maintain them, they found that they had more free time to rest.   The goblins were also quite taken to the wonderful food that the humans were serving them. Inside the dining halls, these so-called mischievous creatures turned into little puppies as they were being served fresh noodles and bread by the housemaids.   Slowly but surely, the plans that Janus had envisioned for the winter was now coming to fruition.   A month later, the irrigation of water towards the crops was about to be finished. Adduk made even more revisions to Janus' plan. The water mills could now process the grain, additional savings for the farm.   Water cisterns and tanks were now also under construction after the first order of Yvaine's iron ore.   The building of houses for the serfs took on at a faster rate after the goblin's support. Plans for heating systems were designed and added under the supervision of Adduk.   He was the one goblin that didn't entice any problems with the carpenters and craftsmen at all. They found Adduk to be their kindred spirit. All he wanted to do was to make stuff, and that was all he did. It didn't matter if it was for himself or other people.   Janus also got a lot out of it. He scoured everything he could get out of Adduk's workshop for data, and at the end of the day, he earned 3580 CP. Not bad for a few hours of work!   There was also notification from the Golden Library. He was surprised to see that he had an email. They had never sent him mail before.   It looked like a letter from the Golden Library staff. He couldn't decide if it was written by someone or automated.     Congratulations Prince Janus Blackfield of Kalesia! For bridging the gap between the human and goblin race, and leading progressive change in the culture and practices of Galedon. You have earned a bonus of 5000 CP! Enjoy your gift! We are happy that you are making so much good work on your designated world.   Regards Golden Library Management.   With this came a surge of motivation. Making some progress towards the advancement of civilization could earn him bonus points!   A new crazy idea had been brewing in his mind for weeks but he had lacked the resources. Now that he had a lot of CP in the bank, he decided it was time to pursue it.     # "That's a great idea, and I support you a hundred percent. But we have a hitch right here." Said Yvaine.   Master Oswald nodded.   "What hitch?" said Janus.   "The Holy See is in control of all the education in the kingdom and is strongly opposed to teaching the other races in any way." Yvaine said.   "His Holiness values the advancement of human civilization the most. It is one thing to deal and work with the other races, but educating them in human ways is a huge sin." Added the steward.   "That's ridiculous. Knowledge is not exclusive to the church, or any singular race for that matter."   "That's blasphemy!" Yvaine said with a loud gasp. "That's the kind of thing that could warrant a confession. You better let anyone else hear you say it out loud."   "Well fine. We could teach the serfs and the children, as well as anyone who would want to join. Can you help me on this Yvaine?" Janus asked.   Still, this would not deter Janus from doing what he wanted. He collected books and did sessions of teaching to the children and the adults who had free time. Yvaine joined him as well, conducting another class in a separate room. They also hired a few of the educated folk and some professional teachers to help the,. Their lessons were on basic mathematics, basic science, and practical training on different professions in the manor. Yvaine also teached history and politics of Kalesia.   Despite the warnings from everyone, Janus still tried to find a way to teach the goblins. It was unfair that his craftsmen were learning a lot from Adduk, yet they were averse to teaching them the things that they knew, just because of some backward thinking doctrine.   It would also be irresponsible for him to ask them to do something that would be deemed threatening to the Holy Church. So Janus decided to do it himself. He would hold lessons in the goblin once a week. Teaching them the human ways of writing and counting, as well as having meetings with Kuzzak on their needs.   Winter came, and to his surprise, most of the serfs volunteered to work even when the fields had to rest. Most of the jobs available were under the manufacturing of new tools and equipment for agriculture. They had built work sheds with desks and furnaces that had excellent heating, thanks to the hard work of Adduk.   Outside of town, the Prince Janus bread was gaining a lot of popularity, and orders for their crops skyrocketed to the point that they were running out of stock. Master Ringo calculated that a price increase was in order due to the huge demand.   The goblins were also delighted, a new band of ten had joined them during the winter. With more who were expected to come as Hakkar came out scouting to find them. There were outsiders who would hunt the lost goblins, presumably from the orders of Lord Padron. But these men would flee as soon as they saw the manor guards.   Janus was on a roll, life was more comfortable than ever. For the first time in his life, he felt like he could make a difference. What could possibly go wrong?
