Chapter 20

The Last Stand Leona’s heart pounded in her chest as she watched her mother, standing so small in the shadow of Vivienne’s empire. She was supposed to be the one to save her, but the walls were closing in, and the price of freedom was steep. Vivienne smirked, a cold, knowing look in her eyes as she stepped forward. “You think you can take everything I’ve built, Leona? That you can walk away with your mother? You—who have nothing?” Leona took a deep breath, her gaze never wavering. “You’re wrong. I’ve got everything. You’re just too blinded by your own power to see it.” Her mother flinched but remained still, her eyes darting between the two women. Elias moved to her side, his presence a steady anchor. “We’ve already won, Vivienne. You just don’t know it yet.” Vivienne’s lips curled into a wicked grin. “Do you really believe that? Because the truth is, you’ve been playing right into my hands from the start.” Leona’s blood ran cold. “What do you mean?” Vivienne laughed. “You really think I would just let you expose me without a fight? You think those photos were just a diversion? No, darling. They were the bait.” Leona’s eyes narrowed as the truth began to sink in. “You knew. You knew exactly how I would react.” “And that’s the beauty of it,” Vivienne purred. “You’ve been following my script all along.” For a moment, the world went quiet. Then the door slammed open, and a dozen men in suits stormed into the church, blocking all exits. Leona’s breath hitched. “You’re not getting away with this, Vivienne.” “Oh, I already have,” Vivienne said smugly. “You don’t even realize it yet.” The men surrounded them, their eyes cold and calculating. Vivienne stood back, watching as if she were admiring a piece of art. Elias stepped in front of Leona, his jaw set. “We’re not going anywhere, Vivienne.” Her eyes flashed with something sharp and deadly. “You think I’ll let you just walk out? You have no leverage. You are my leverage.” Leona felt the chill of fear creep over her but refused to show it. Instead, she took a step forward, her eyes locked onto Vivienne’s. “I don’t need leverage to bring you down.” Vivienne’s grin faded, her posture stiffening. “What are you planning, Leona?” Leona raised her chin, defiance radiating from every pore. “You think you control everything. But you forgot one thing: The truth is always more powerful than your lies.” The sound of a phone ringing cut through the tense silence. Vivienne glanced down, her fingers curling around the device before answering without hesitation. “What is it?” Vivienne snapped, irritation evident in her voice. The voice on the other end was muffled, but it didn’t matter. Leona knew who it was. It was too late. “No,” Vivienne hissed. “That’s impossible.” Her eyes shot toward Leona, the mask of confidence shattering. “What have you done?” Leona stepped back slightly, her hand gripping Elias’s. “You can’t keep controlling the world, Vivienne. You can’t keep manipulating everyone around you.” The sound of sirens blared in the distance, growing louder. “You didn’t think we had eyes everywhere?” Elias pulled out his phone, showing Vivienne a live stream of her own people getting arrested outside the church. Her assets were being frozen, her network dismantled. Her empire was crumbling—and there was nothing she could do to stop it. Vivienne’s face twisted in rage. “You think this is over?” Leona’s smile was cold. “You never understood me, Vivienne. You never understood us. We’re not afraid of you anymore.” The room seemed to pulse with energy as Vivienne’s shock turned to fury. She charged forward, hands reaching for the one thing she still believed could save her—her control. But Leona was faster. In one swift motion, she swiped the flash drive from her pocket and tossed it into the air. Elias caught it easily, tossing it to the nearest officer as the men moved in to take Vivienne into custody. Vivienne screamed, thrashing against them, but there was no escape now. Her own secrets had betrayed her. As she was dragged away, her eyes locked onto Leona’s, her voice low and venomous: “This isn’t over. Not by a long shot.” Leona stood tall. “It was over the moment you underestimated me.” The aftermath was a blur. Leona’s mother was safe, though shaken. The investigation into Vivienne’s empire took weeks, but by the time the dust settled, Leona stood unshaken. Her clinic was still hers. Her future was hers. And for the first time in years, she could breathe. That night, Elias stood beside her on the balcony of the penthouse, the city lights twinkling below them. “You did it,” he said, his voice full of awe. Leona smiled, a soft, exhausted smile. “We did it.” He turned toward her, his eyes warm. “I’m proud of you, Leona. More than you’ll ever know.” She leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder. “You were there. Every step of the way. You kept me grounded.” “And you taught me how to fight for what really matters,” Elias said, his hand finding hers. Leona closed her eyes, feeling the weight of everything they’d been through. The battles fought. The betrayals. The heartache. But in that moment, with Elias by her side, she knew one thing for certain. They were stronger than the people who’d tried to break them. They were unbeatable.
