8 years ago *Shade* Glorious heat engulfed me as I emerged from the fire. I delighted in the flames feasting on the stairs, claiming the walls of the old house, but my head felt light, my body airy and translucent. Disappointment rushed through me but only for a moment, for the destruction around me revived my eagerness to see more. Power cursed through my veins, spreading out the tips of my fingers dropping in fat bubbles of heat onto the spots of carpet not yet victim to the fire. My body instantly started to fall apart, slipping from reality, and losing substance. I could not let her go! With my last effort I flicked my fingers, a burst of fire erupting from me and splashing against her left temple. With my waning conscience I watched my mark appear on her skin, and her name formed in my mind. Contentedness tainted my words, as I called her name, laced with a promise, for she has the key to my salvation: I’ll come for you. Finally…
