LOVE IN DECEIT

CHAPTER 2

As Emily approached the coffee shop, she noticed Kate's car already parked outside. She pulled into a nearby spot and turned off the engine, grabbing her bag and hopping out of the car.

She smiled as she saw Kate and George for her outside the coffee shop, looking like they were in high spirits.

"Hey, guys!" Emily exclaimed, walking towards them with a spring in her step. "It's so great to see you both!"

Kate and George smiled back, and the three friends exchanged warm hugs. "It's been too long!" Kate said, holding Emily at arm's length to take in her appearance. "You look great, Em. I love your hair like that."

Emily blushed and smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her friends. "Thanks, Kate. You look pretty amazing yourself. I love that scarf you're wearing."

George chuckled and shook his head. "You two are always exchanging compliments. Let's get inside and grab some coffee before you start a mutual admiration society."

The three friends laughed and headed inside the coffee shop.

Good morning!!! They all greeted in unison.

As they approached the counter, Kate called out to the barista, "Hey, we're ready to order!"

The barista, a friendly woman with a warm smile, greeted them and asked, "What can I get started for you today?"

Emily spoke up first, "I'll have an Iced Americano, please."

The barista nodded and turned to Kate, "And for you?"

Kate thought for a moment before responding, "Hmmm "I'll have a Caramel Macchiato, but can you make it with almond milk instead of regular milk?"

The barista nodded and jotted down Kate's order. "I can do that."

George, who had been quietly observing the exchange, spoke up next, "And I'll have a Cappuccino, but can you make it with a shot of espresso on the side?"

The barista raised an eyebrow, "A shot of espresso on the side? That's a new one!"

George chuckled, "Yeah, I like to add it to my coffee myself. It's a habit I picked up as a cyber scientist."

The barista laughed and nodded, "Well, I can do that for you. So, to recap, I've got an Iced Americano, a Caramel Macchiato with almond milk, and a Cappuccino with a shot of espresso on the side. Anything else I can get for you guys today?"

Emily spoke up, "No, that's it for us. Thanks!"

The barista smiled and nodded, "Alright, I'll get those drinks started for you. I'll bring them over to your table when they're ready."

As they waited for their drinks, the three friends chatted and caught up on each other's lives.

Emily talked about her latest journalism projects, Kate discussed her work at Green Earth Foods, and George shared stories about his adventures in cyber security.

When the barista arrived with their drinks, they were thrilled to see that she had even drawn a little heart in the foam of Kate's Caramel Macchiato. "Aww, thanks!" Kate exclaimed, snapping a photo of her drink to post on social media.

As they sipped their coffees, the three friends continued their lively conversation, enjoying each other's company and the warm atmosphere of the coffee shop. Little did they know, their coffee date would be the start of a thrilling adventure that would change their lives forever.

Once they had their coffee, they settled into a cosy corner table, chatting and catching up on each other's lives.

"So, what's new with you, Kate?" Emily asked, taking a sip of her latte. "How's work going?"

Kate launched into an enthusiastic explanation of her latest projects at Green Earth Foods, detailing her efforts to reduce the company's carbon footprint and implement sustainable practices.

Emily listened intently, asking questions and offering words of encouragement.

George, meanwhile, was quietly observing the exchange, a small smile playing on his lips. He loved seeing Emily and Kate interact, their friendship was truly special.

As Kate finished her update, Emily turned to George and asked, "And how about you, George? What's new in the world of cyber security?"

George launched into a detailed explanation of his latest projects at Tech-Corp, discussing the latest threats and innovations in the field. Emily listened attentively, asking questions and making thoughtful noises.

Kate smiled and leaned back in her chair, watching her friends interact with a sense of contentment.

This was what she loved about their friendship - the ease, the laughter, the sense of connection that only grew stronger with time.

Emily asked Kate, "So, what's this information you wanted to share with me?"

Kate leaned in a serious look on her face. "Did you not watch the news today?"

Emily shook her head, "No, I was busy with work. What happened?"

Kate took a deep breath before delivering the news. "The CEO of MK Pharmaceutical Company has been arrested for cocaine smuggling."

Emily's eyes widened in shock. "What?! That's insane!"

Kate nodded, "I know, right? I couldn't believe it when I heard it on the news this morning."

George, who had been quietly observing the exchange, spoke up. "That's huge. I mean, MK Pharmaceutical is a massive company. This scandal is going to have major repercussions."

Emily's mind was racing. "Do you think it's true? I mean, could it be a setup or a mistake?"

Kate shook her head. "From what I've heard, the evidence is pretty damning. The CEO was caught red-handed with a shipment of cocaine worth millions."

Emily's eyes were wide with disbelief. "That's crazy! What was he thinking?"

George leaned in, his voice low. "I think he was probably thinking he was above the law. These corporate types often think they can get away with anything."

Kate nodded in agreement. "And now he's facing serious charges. I bet he's regretting his actions big time."

Emily took a sip of her coffee, her mind still reeling from the news. "Wow, this is just...wow. I can't believe it."

As they continued discussing the scandal, Emily couldn't help but think about the implications. She had always known that the pharmaceutical industry was cutthroat, but this was on a whole other level.

The three friends chatted for a while longer, discussing everything from the latest news to their personal lives.

As they finished up their coffees, Emily glanced at her watch and realized they had been chatting for hours.

"Wow, I had no idea it was so late," Emily exclaimed. "We should probably get going."

Kate nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I have a meeting with a potential client later today."

George stood up, stretching his arms. "And I have a ton of work to do on this new project I'm working on."

As they said their goodbyes and parted ways, since their lunch break was over they both went back to work.

Emily who was on vacation decided to go home and rest.
