Beep....Beep....Beep I wake to the sound of a machine beeping. I open my eyes and I'm in a room that's dim. Where am I? when I reach up to rub my eyes, I realize that there is something attached to me. I look down and see an I.V line running from my arm. I'm in a hospital. I feel groggy and confused. The events slowly come back to me and I hear the heart monitor beeps speed up a bit. I was running from Ty and I was hit by a car. I was hit by a car. I was hit by a car! I reach over and hit the nurse call button. A girl comes in a few seconds later. "Hi, I'm Lauryn. I'm your nurse for the night. I was just on my way in here to check you." She whispers and I don't know why. "How long have I been here?" I try to sit up but a pain in my ribs stops me. Lauryn the nurse presses my shoulder making me lay back down. "You've been here for 2 days." She checks my I.V and vitals. "Am I okay?" "Yes, surprisingly, you had no internal injuries. You took quite a bump to your head. You chart says that you've been in and out but other than that, you're fine. Just bruised up a bit. While you were being brought here, you were able to tell your name and social which is great because you had no identification on you." s**t, I left all my stuff at Ty's. How am I going to get it back? I nod and the feeling of my bladder about to explode hits me "I have to pee really bad" "Oh, you have a catheter in so just let it go" She chuckles a bit and my cheeks heat a bit. I let my bladder go for it and it feels a little weird especially since Lauryn is standing right in front of me. Awkward. A few minutes later, a doctor comes in and talks to me. He says he'll keep me for another day then I can leave. I should be happy about it, but I don't even have anywhere to live. I'm homeless. As the doctor talks, tears come to my eyes. What am I going to do? I am pulled back to reality when the doctor mentions how lucky I was to have someone stop and save me. I frown "wait what?" "It was a hit and run. A guy stopped and called 911. He has been here the whole time" The doctor points behind him and this time I make myself sit up, cringing from the pain. Behind the doctor and nurse, I see a man sitting in the chair sleeping. No wonder they were whispering. The man is young around my age, maybe older. He is in a suit and his hair is messy. Even in his sleep he has this angry expression. The stranger is handsome. Incredibly handsome actually. He has a bit of scruff around his chin but it's sexy. His jaw is clenched and his skin is a soft golden complexion. I almost feel like I need a mirror. God knows what a travesty I look like right now. After talking to the doctor a little more, they leave me to rest, but I spend most of the time laying there staring at the stranger sleeping across the room. He doesn't look like the type to care about someone like me. He looks like money, a rich kid. While I'm watching him, he stirs and groans in his slumber. I watch as his eyes flutter open and fall on me. "Who are you?" I mumble and he stands. "Um, I'm Demetri. I, um, I'm the one who saw you lying in the road." "Hi, Demetri, I'm Ivy and thank you for helping me, I really appreciate it. What kind of asshole hits someone with their car and just leaves?" I watch as Demetri's whole demeanor changes. "Y..Yeah. Why were you out so late anyways? You should've been at home. You probably just carelessly ran into the street. I mean didn't you look?" I frown at his offensive rambling. How dare he try to blame me for some jerk to run me over? "Maybe the person should have been watching where they were going. Maybe they should have had their freaking headlights on so they could see." We stare at each other for a moment and the way Demetri is acting is weird. It's almost like he is angry at me for almost getting killed. He turns around, pulling his phone from is pocket to answer a call even though I didn't hear anything ring. He must have it on vibrate. I hear him whisper. "Is it good?.....yeah I got it....thanks man....have it delivered in the morning" he ends the call and turns back to me. "So no one has visited. Maybe you should call your family or something" Demetri says. I sigh, fiddling with the tape on my arm holding the I.V needle down "I don't have any family" "So who is coming to get you tomorrow?" "No one" I shrug. Demetri frowns "So you have nowhere to stay? No relatives, friends?" I shake my head "Nope. I'm a lonely soul." Demetri's face softens "s**t. I'm so sorry" He mumbles. "Don't be. It's not your fault" I shrug smiling at him. Demetri walks back to my side and nods "But it is" "What is?" I sit up a bit and I flinch. Demetri's hands reach out but fall to his side when he sees that I'm fine. He takes a few deep breathes and his face gardens "Promise you won't be mad" "Um, I promise." "It's my fault because, I am the one who hit you" He whispers just soft enough for me to hear. My eyes widen and my hand flies to the call remote but Demetri beats me to it, snatching it from my grasp "Please, don't!" "Why not?! You are the shitface that ran me over!!" I yell and Demetri groan "Please lower your f*****g voice. You ran out in front of my car. I didn't even see you" "You didn't even have headlights on you i***t. Now give me that remote so I can have you arrested, you piece of s**t!" Suddenly, Demetri's hand clamps over my mouth. I swing my hand and slap him, "Ahh s**t! Stop it you crazy b***h!" He grabs my wrist pinning it down "Look, I have a proposition for you. Now you can take it or you can go back to whoever was after you that night. Your choice" I look at him, mentally stabbing daggers into his chest with my eyes. What kind of proposition does he have that can make me forget about him running me over? When I finally look up into his eyes, I notice that they are hazel. Very nice eyes. Nice lips too. Oh snap out of it, Ivy! This man is a criminal and you are thinking about his damn beautiful eyes. I quickly slap his hands away. Maybe I should take up his offer. Its not like I have anything to lose. I'm poor and homeless but should I trust this guy. "What kind of proposition?" "Come live with me and-" I hold up my hand "Whoa whoa now, I am not that kinda girl. I am not living with you. You could be some psycho killer rapist cannibal." Demetri frowns more "What the hell?" I roll my eyes "No, I'm not living with you." "You didn't let me finish. Maybe if you would shut that trap of yours, you can listen better. I want to hire you as my live in maid. It'll get you off the streets and get some money in your pocket" Demetri stands up straight, slipping his hands into his pockets. I stare down at my hands, thinking about all this. I guess I take too long to answer because jerk face with the nice eyes chimes in. "It's not like you have any other options." "Why are you trying to help me? Or maybe you're just trying to save your own ass. Bribe me into not telling. Scared to go to jail, pretty boy?" I raise an eyebrow and Demetri's face turns red with anger. He grips my arm tightly and leans over into my face "Just take the f*****g offer. You need the money don't you?" Logic creeps into my thoughts. Yes, I do need the money. I do need a place to live. I do need to disappear from Ty. He would never find me in a rich neighborhood. His dumb ass didn't even complete high school for Christ sake. However, it all boils down to if I can trust Demetri. "How do I know I can trust you?" Demetri's mean expression softens a bit "Because I confessed to hitting you with my car" a small smirk appears on his lips. "True." I lean back against the bed "Fine, I'll do it. I'll live with you and clean for you. I won't tell." I shrug. I see Demetri's shoulders relax a bit. He pulls up a chair next to the bed and sits. He leans back against the seat and yawns, closing his eyes as if a weight was just lifted off his toned shoulders. He has the nerve to be tired. I'm the one on a hospital bed. I should be stress free and recovering, but nope. I have just agreed to live with the man who hit me with his car. Anyone would have hauled ass and skipped town, but for some reason he didn't I reach over and tap his arm and he opens one eye "So why did you stay? why didn't you just drive off?" "Because I'm human. Now go to sleep" He mumbles, closing his eye. I watch him for a few minutes before I doze off to the same sounds I woke up to. Beep...Beep...Beep
