Chapter 15 - Promise

2193 Words
Was my desire to acquire the power of Glamour only the Pixies possessed was absurd? Or was it the challenge itself? Perhaps it was the King... I couldn’t help but let anger grow in me for my father’s idea. He wanted to kick me, that’s for sure. Knowing that the life they have given to me was not my happiness, they sure wanted me out of the position, so I could go and find myself and the things that would genuinely put a smile on my lips. But it didn’t occur to them that the way they wanted me out motivates me to stay. I wanted to prove them wrong. Even though my desire to win this game was for the sake of my people who believed in me. Leaving them... No, that would make a useless leader. A ruler who only stayed when everything was still fine? I’m not that kind of leader. And I will never be. I heard Terran groan as he stretched out his arms. I feel him... We just laid down on the wooden floor and it hurt our back. “Another day, another waiting game...” It was Deniz who just got back from hunting food. He was topless. The guys' bodies were toned for they were trained physically, every day. Deniz and Terran were both gorgeous, actually. That was a fact people can’t deny. They were gods of their own kingdom, hot guys for other ladies' eyes. Well, even I can’t say yes if someone would ask me if they’re ugly because truth to be speaking, they are not. “I didn’t find anything, Rani Letisha. As Terran said, there’s no life here. This was known as Lugar vacío for nothing. Just look around, it’s empty!” He sounded so frustrated. We still have food left, but it wouldn’t last for long. I tied my hair in a bun before grabbing the bag away from Terran’s hands. The little fairies were sitting in the small wood, looking so alert. “Right... It’s fine. We will have some left that’s good for two days. If the Achlys still won't give us a reply today, we’ll go to their place,” I said firmly. I knew it’s dangerous. We could get killed... But I have a hunch that the Pixies already got the message and yet, they didn’t bother to send us something for assurance that they won’t attack us. We still need to try. We need to be alert once we invade their place. Nothing will happen if we just keep on waiting and waiting until the sky turns dark again. Besides, I was only given a limited time. I need to compromise as soon as possible or else... “Alright, princess. We need to prepare, Deniz. A lot could happen once we’re inside their land.” “I was born ready, Terran...” Deniz looked at the little fairies who were silent. “How about you, young Faes? Are you ready?” Rin rolled her eyes which made me chuckle. Among them, it was Rin who had the guts to do that to the prince of the Nixie. “I have the right to remain silent,” she stated and flew, parching on my shoulder. “But I’m ready, Rani Letisha. Let’s face the Pixies and get what we wanted. The power of illusion...” Nodding, I smiled at them assuringly. That’s the only thing I could do now to make everyone feel at ease. To show them that we can make it until the very end, to let them know that we are all in this together. No one will be left behind. We will all go home, bringing the victory. “I promise, we will go out of the place after we’re done with our purpose...” I jested. Deniz and Terran smiled at me. Their eyes were filled with trust and the willingness to help me. The two were too precious... They were the ones who made my childhood complete, these idiots were the ones who made me feel like I’m worthy. I’m beyond thankful... For they didn’t let the past blind them from seeing me the way they did. I felt like I was still the princess they promised to protect when we were still young. “We will make it, Rani Letisha. You will be the princess of the Faye region, and sooner or later, you'll be our Queen everyone will respect.” Being the mother of the Acres Kingdom didn’t enter my mind before, even now. I don’t think I could handle such great responsibilities... My mum was better, and if the day comes that she’d choose to let go of her throne, someone out there deserves it more. We need to find who’s more fitted to wear the crown. Someone who would be happy to become the next la Reina of the Acres Kingdom. And one of the three idiots would be the la Rey. I’ll be there to support whoever sits on the crown. Whatever their position, I’d be here with them. I mentally shook my head to dismiss the thought. C’mon, Rani Letisha. It’s not the time to think of other things. The goal... Focus on the goal, Rani Letisha. “Let’s go, everyone...” Turning my back from them, I started to walk. But the thought of last night made its way inside my mind. Especially the kid... Until now, I’m curious about what he truly is. I never failed to sense if someone is going after us. My sense never failed me until last night. He hid his presence too well that none of us felt it. Even now, I still couldn't smell the kid’s presence. I wonder if he’s still going after us. But for what reason? Was it a trap? Was our meeting not a coincidence? Besides, we already caught him. I knew he saw us last night and yet, why isn’t he still showing up? What was he waiting for? I wanted to know... The kid must have an agenda why he kept his eyes on us. Aside from the fact that we were just tourists from another kingdom, what could be the other possible reasons? If he was following us, why? “The Pixies are too snobbish,” Deniz blurted out as we walked again. “Why can’t they just send back a message telling us that we’d be safe as long as we keep our promise not to harm them? Is it too hard to write back to us?” Again, he sounded so frustrated. Deni and his patience... My hair was longer than it, actually. “Maybe they don’t know how to write?” Terran tried to calm him down, giving him an absurd excuse. “Relax, Deniz... We’ll be there sooner. Don’t let the Pixies get into your nerves. You might lose your control and attack them once we arrive in Achlys.” “Princess was right. You don’t want that to happen, right?” Rolling his eyes, Deniz rested his arm again on my shoulder. Terran's eyes went to it, but later scoffed when he noticed the smirk playing on Deniz’s lips. He even acted like he was about to throw up. Chuckling, I ignored their exchange of glances. Something inside me chucked. It felt weird, honestly. I was used to them being clingy but now that we were all grown up, it somehow felt awkward. Maybe because it has been ages since we last felt each other’s skin. “You are so clingy, Deniz,” I commented, which made him laugh a bit. He didn’t bother to say anything. When we arrived at the open ground again, the first thing I noticed was the white paper, with a small stone above it to keep it in place. Seeing it made my eyes widened in happiness. Finally! I’d like to assume that it was from the Pixies, so I ran and took it quickly. “It’s probably from the Pixies,” I told them. All of them gathered by my side as I slowly opened the folded paper. My heart was beating so fast thinking of the content. What could it be? Would the Pixies finally allow us to enter their haven without getting attacked? I hope so, too. They were the only hope I have now to pass the test the King gave to me. They were the only ones who own the power of illusion, so it must be right to go for them to have it. For the sake of my position, I’d be willing to put my life at risk to have it. “Oh god, they literally said that sending a reply at night wasn’t a good time, so they have chosen to get back to us just now.” I gasped when we finally saw the written message. An ink of black, but I knew it wasn’t from a pen. Pixie's blood was black. That was what the Queen Mother told me back then. But it wasn’t the time to think about it. “Finally, we’re safe to be there...” I whispered with a hint of relief. I’m not scared if ever they’d attack us. If I’m alone, I would have been there since last night, however, I’m with these people. They don’t have an idea how powerful the Pixies were. Although it was nothing compared to the power our leaders have before, we still don’t know the future that awaits us in the Achlys. “So, shall we go? Let’s not waste time here. I think we should go now,” it was Terran. I was about to say yes when my eyes caught something from afar. And yes, it was the kid who bravely faces us now without hiding. “It was the kid again...” I don’t know what’s with this kid. My curiosity is killing me but I don’t have the time to feed it. Glancing at them, I ignored the kid who was just stuck, standing far from us with his eyes staring at us. Seriously... I don’t usually see a kid but seeing him kinda irritates me. “Let’s go, guys. Just ignore the kid and focus on our goal.” I felt bad, alright. I could feel that he was up for something. I just don’t know if it’s a good thing or not but he should voice out whatever it is. Something important is waiting ahead of us. “How about the kid?” Deniz stopped for a while. I leered at him again. “He doesn’t want to speak, Deniz. Besides, we will have something important to go to. Let’s leave him...” “What if he follows us again?” This time, Terran was the one who asked like a concerned netizen. My brows rose. “It’s up to him, Terran. He’s not with us, and we clearly didn’t invite him.” He seems disappointed, but never uttered a thing. “Alright... Let’s go now. The time is running, okay? We need to be quick, everyone. This is more important than him...” My voice lowered in the end. “If he could wait for our comeback, then we will deal with him. He can’t be with us either... He’s a kid.” “He doesn’t look like one though,” Rin chuckled and I agreed with her. “Yup, but let’s go now...” I don’t know how many times I told them that before we left the child. Slowly, I felt agitated. A lot of things could happen once we arrived there, and we all don’t have any idea what it could be. But whatever it is, I’m ready to face it all with all my courage. I won’t wither... We will not wither. “Guys, this won’t be easy, okay? Invading the Achly meant we’re putting our lives at risk. Just promise me one thing...” “What is it?” We all stopped walking. I looked at them with my eyes begging. “Please, please... Whatever happens, don’t die for me...”
