Chapter 34 - Arrival

1004 Words
No one can really tell what would happen. Even me. I can’t exactly pinpoint my emotions building inside me. There were a lot of what-ifs and doubts. As it should be for we are all clueless about the future that awaits us. The blue Jaybird is the only way to survive if he appears to be true. The only one who can help me acquire the power of Glamour, one of two things to secure my position in the Acres Kingdom. Leaving my throne is the last thing I want to happen. I will never really leave no matter how big the responsibility is. No matter how unhappy I’d become in the future, I won’t give up my title. I worked hard to earn it. Giving up won’t be on my options. “We are getting near,” I said, exhausted from all the walking. “Do you still have an Acorn to feed the bird? It’s the only way for him to show up,” asked Terran and I nodded. “I still have two Acorns left. So, we will still be able to summon the Jaybird.” “Then, how can we make him talk?” “We need to make him shift first into his real form. But I don’t know how to... The Queen Mother didn’t tell me anything about it.” The blue Jaybird is an old man who only accepts the Queen Mother’s acorn. The former queen who chose to be an oak tree, and the Jaybird rely on the fruit she produces. I still wonder about the connection. Why would he only accept the fruit coming from the Queen Mother’s tree? There are a lot of trees in Godlic. I‘m still not sure if he only fancies my grandmother’s acorn but I have to confirm it. I have to know the real truth and their connection if there is. And what does he have to do with the power of illusion if my hunch is right? That he has it, or even the thought that he possibly know who has it. Is he part of the Pixies to acquire such power? What about my grandmother who belongs in our kingdom? I am really dying to know every inch of it. It’s one of the things that bothers me until now. Since the day I left the Acres Kingdom, the day I met that blue Jaybird, the feeling where you know there’s something wrong bothers me. So I want to know... “We’ll just have to ask the bird if he could do that for us,” Deniz chuckled playfully. “I’m sure he would ask for something in return for the information we want to have. That’s if... Rani Letisha’s guess is right that he might have the power of Glamour, or maybe... he has something that can lead us to whoever has the power of illusion.” I agree with Terran. He might ask something in return. All pieces of information matter and it would be a waste if you give it for free. We wouldn’t even make it to the Achlys if not because of his service and in exchange for that, he asked of the Acorn. So he was right. Terran was right. The bird might ask something but how would we know? Then I remember, I can understand him... F uck. That was the downside of it. I can’t pretend like I can’t hear the bird for it knows I can. If not, then maybe he has to shift so we can understand clearly what he might ask from us to trade with the information we desire. But then yeah, I’ve learned that I can even talk to a bird. The little Fairies asked to be released so I let them fly away from my pockets. I smiled at them as we continued to walk back to the Asbel where the bird is. “Unfortunately, Rani Letisha can understand a bird-like him.” Just like Deniz, my shoulders drop at the realization. I should have just act dumb in our first meeting so we won’t have this problem. Yet it is too late for regrets now. The only thing we should find out is the thing he might ask from us in return. How would we know? I don’t know. “Then, I think we should just give him what he wants no matter what. We need the information,” Terran uttered. I stopped when I saw an oak tree. They all stopped, too when they didn’t feel my presence behind them. Without a word, I went there to get some acorn. Rin followed me. “What would you do with those?” she asked with a hint of confusion in her little voice. “I just need to confirm something. Let’s go...” They didn’t bother to ask about it. We continued walking again and as minutes passed, I started to feel anxious. For some reason, my heart pounded so hard I can almost hear it. I shook my head, trying to dismiss the thought. I’m nervous for there is only a fifty-fifty chance that the Jaybird might or not have it. My assumptions might be wrong or right and I’m hoping that they would come out as true. I’d definitely be alone if it’s not. They’d leave me here alone if I’m wrong. “We are getting there,” Deniz announced. I noticed. I held on to the acorn tightly. If he won’t accept this one, then maybe there’s really something behind why he only accepts the fruit of the Queen Mother, the oak tree itself. I am dying to know about it. Damn it. So it would subtract the confusion I’m battling with right now. “The blue Jaybird is there...” We all stopped to see the bird whose eyes were direct at us. Like it was there waiting for our arrival. Like it has expected us to come for it. For the information I badly need.
