The Secrets That Lie

Chapter 3

Nina

I saw Alpha Leroy take his shirt off, and I knew this fight was over before it started. I reminded myself not to be overconfident, but also to observe his movements. I stepped forward without removing anything, Valerie, refusing to let anyone disrespect us on this day. She was pissed that someone would challenge us on the day we got crowned alpha. She was already freaking out about finding our mate, and hadn’t shut up since she felt him. I remembered seeing him as I stepped out of the car. His long black hair that almost touched his eyebrows, but stopped just short, was done in a messy way as if to show he didn’t care, but his green eyes said differently. His strikingly black suit didn’t compare to the intensity of his eyes, and his strong jaw line was set in a manner as if to say he was pissed. His shirt did nothing to hide his tone body underneath, and I could almost count the abs as he stood there. The whole ceremony I had been trying to control Valerie without anybody noticing. She understood why I did it, but that did nothing to calm her down. She wanted me to run to him, to kiss him, to let him hold me in his arms, but I resisted. This only resulted in a major headache. A mask was easy to put on, but keeping her in check was never easy. When Alpha Leroy challenges me I was going to let it slide, but when Raff spoke up to defend me Valerie went ballistic. Hearing the way he spoke to our mate made me want to strangle him, so I accepted his challenge.

I glanced to Grey as I stepped up watching his dark wolf circle to keep me safe felt reassuring. I then glanced to Raff who looked like he might jump in at any moment to stop this. We walked to the center to shake hands, and be good sports. We all knew the rules to win either force them to submit or kill them. Valerie wanted him dead with the way he spoke to us, and our mate, so I knew I had to keep her in check no matter what. We stepped back and began to watch each other. You could hear the clapping of my heels against the pavement. Alpha Leroy looked at my feet, and lunged his eyes shifting up to my abdomen. I waited for the last second and sidestepped to the left of his punch, and brought my elbow down hard on his back knocking him to the ground. I backed up, and waited for him to recover. When he stood up he swung around, and took a defensive stance obviously pissed at my move. A few gasps and snickers could be heard from the crow, and his eyes began to dart around. When he looked back at me his eyes were black, and I knew his wolf had taken control. He ran at me for a punch, and at the last second changed it to a kick. I swiftly moved my head under probably looking like something from the Matrix. I stood back up to my full height bringing my leg up with me and kneeing him in his abdomen. I heard the air leave him as he doubled over, and I swiftly brought my knee up again and heard a somewhat satisfying crunch as his nose broke. He stumbled back trying to regain his composure. Seeing he couldn’t win like this he shifted into his wolf which was large for a wolf, probably because of the alpha gene, was a black wolf with grey and white patches near and around his head. The coloration looked odd, but he took no time in lunging at me once again. He went straight for my jugular, so I ducked under as I did I grabbed his front paw causing him to fall on his back. As soon as he hit I heard a deep growl rip through the air. He was up in less than a second, and back at it. He ran at me with his eyes black meaning his wolf was in complete control. I saw his eyes go for my throat again, but he didn’t jump that high again. When I tried to duck he anticipated the movement, and clawed. I tried to block, but he still managed to get my face. My face and arm now covered in blood I decided to let Valarie have a little fun. As he landed you could hear a few gasps from the onlookers as I stood up. I knew at this point my hair had turned a stark white.

“My turn.” Valerie said in a viscous tone as she sneered at his wolf. He didn’t hesitate feeling like he had the upper hand he charged at her I knew what she was going to do only an instant before she did it. As he jumped to go at us again she jumped too shifting in mid air and aiming her snout right at his jugular. Having no time to react he was defenseless as we landed with him in our mouth. She quickly pinned his body to the pavement as we heard the gasps and awes from the crowd around. I heard a slight whimper from underneath me and saw that he was submitting. We took a step back not certain on what to do next as we had no spare clothes with us at the moment. As we did I looked up and saw only wide eyes of the people around. The only ones who didn’t seem surprised was my family, Derek, Grey, and the ten Alphas of the great packs. I scanned the wide eyes, and landed on a pair of bright green eyes. They held me captive, and wouldn’t let me move. Derek bringing me clothes snapped me out of my trance. He always kept an extra pair of jeans, a shirt, and a jacket for me just in case. Alpha Leroy got up from the ground, and shifted right there in front of everyone. I quickly averted my eyes and looked away as Raff brought his father a spare change of clothes. He put on his pants, and threw on the shirt he was wearing earlier carelessly. When he was fully dressed he looked at me and bowed.

“I apologize for my misconstrued judgement Alpha Nina.” He said this loud enough for everyone to hear. “As promised the Alpha title of the Blue Shadows is yours.” He said this while avoiding eye contact. Still in my wolf form I looked down at him and spoke to everyone through the mind link.

“There will no longer be 12 Great Packs. Today you witnessed history as the Blue Shadows pack is now one with the Valley pack. To all who are in these packs treat each other fairly, and with the same love and respect you treat your own pack. You are family now, and remember this. Whoever disagrees with this can speak to me personally. If I find out any of you have been disrespectful you will be dealt with accordingly. You are family now. You are our pack. Alpha Leroy stand. You will maintain the Blue Shadows pack, but you will govern under me. Now lets all enjoy the rest of the celebration.” I say the last part as I sever the mind link. People still look at me with wide eyes some fearful, others loving, and others with pure wonder. I can tell they are wondering how I managed to mind link all of them. Even the ones not in my pack. Most can only mind link one person at a time, and it is limited to those in their pack, and their mates. Slowly the people disperse, and my father comes to me and gives me a hug with only pride in his eyes. At his touch I realize I am still in wolf form, and I take the clothes from Derek that he has been holding this whole time. I give him a nod of thanks as I head back inside to the restroom. As I walk out I instantly feel his presence, and turn around to be face to face with Raff.

“Oh, Hello,” I say my mask already falling into place. Realizing we are alone I look at him, and I actually look at his face. Goddess he is beautiful.

“Of course he is he is our mate.” Valerie says sarcastically. I internally roll my eyes at her, and look at him. He looks uncomfortable.

“I am sorry...for...taking your pack” I whisper the last few words looking down. As soon as I say that he stiffens up which makes me look at him worried about how mad he is about that.

“Don’t be” he says, and looks at me in earnest. “I never wanted to be alpha, my dad was trying to force me to be. I’m actually glad you took that away. Now I won’t ever have to have that responsibility.” At this I look at him confused. If he is my mate then he would still be alpha. A sudden horrible thought crosses my mind.

“No he can’t!” With this thought I panic, and I do something I never thought I would ever do in my life. I kissed him. Fearing what he might say next I just kissed him. I can feel his body stiffen from the shock, but then he relaxes, and I can feel him kiss me back. He wraps his arms around my back as my arms go around his neck. The sparks from the kiss fly making my lips feel tingly. I want more, so I deepen the kiss as he brushes his tongue along my lip asking for entrance. I readily give it to him wanting more. His hands slowly move up my back, and his fingers get tangled in my hair. Suddenly a fire erupts on my back where one hand has found its way up my shirt. I slightly moan at the feel of him touching me, and the fire it ignites on my skin. I lean in giving him permission as he slowly starts kissing down to my neck making his way to where his mark would go. I lean my head to the side giving him easier access. As he starts to nibble I feel more sparks erupt there his lips touch, and I moan again. We were so intertwined with each other we didn’t feel another presence until he heard a throat clear right behind me. We both jump, and break free of each other as I turn around sheepishly only to see Grey standing there still in his wolf form.

I immediately start blushing at the situation I was just caught in when I noticed the clothing hanging out of his mouth. I realize he was waiting for the restroom to change, so I quickly moved out of the way. Without another look he walked in, and shut the door. I looked back at Raff who was attempting to fix his clothes. When he felt me staring he looked up. He looked slightly annoyed. I couldn’t tell if it was at me or at himself. Suddenly his face lost all expression, and his eyes got a far off look in them, and I could tell he was speaking to his wolf. When he was done he looked pissed off, and without another word he turned around and left. I was so confused with what just happened I hardly realized Grey had come out of the restroom. He just looked at me knowingly, and gave me a hug.

“Please don’t tell anyone, I will tell Derek after the party, just please don’t tell anyone.” He pulled away from the hug and looked at me with his hazel eyes.

“Your secret's safe with me sis.” He whispers as he kisses me on the top of my head before we walk back to the party.
