Chapter 8: The Bride Candidate

1253 Words
In the White House... The ever so beautiful Evelyn Lincoln was sitting on the couch in the VIP room, sipping on her cup of tea with such grace and elegance. She was with Laura Jackson—Silas’ mother—who was assisting her. Being the daughter of the Alpha of the Silver Crest Pack, the second largest and strongest pack in North America, Evelyn was a special she-wolf. Not only because she was the oldest daughter of the said pack who would inherit the wealth of her family when she got married, but because she was considered the most beautiful she-wolf in her pack. Every Alpha in North America was dying to have her, but she chose to marry Silas. For Laura Jackson, Evelyn was the most expensive diamond that perfectly fit to be her son’s new wife. "It’s been a while since the last time I saw Silas. I hope he’s excited to see his future wife," Evelyn said with a proud tone. Laura smiled, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Evelyn. "Silas is a bit busy with some pack matters, but I assure you he wants to see you as well, my dearest." Evelyn smiled. Everything was already a done deal. With the Elders who were backing up the arranged marriage, she already foresaw that the two packs would merge, and she would become the strongest Luna of the North America. The door swung open, and Silas emerged from it. Wearing a black long-sleeve polo in which three buttons were opened, exposing his chiseled chest, partnered with the same colour of pants and shoes, and messy yet attractive long hair, Evelyn’s mouth gapped in awe. Evelyn would say that Silas was not only the most powerful Alpha but also the only werewolf who caught her attention. He was beautiful, charismatic, and could sway every girl with his presence. His body build would make any she-wolf crave his touch, and Evelyn was proud that she used to taste his lips and moan his name on the bed, as she had had a relationship with him before. "Silas," she called his name, stood up, walked to him like a model, and kissed him on the cheek. "I’m glad that you made time for me." "What brings you here, Evelyn?" Silas asked dryly. "I’m here to visit my future husband. According to your mom, you’re busy dealing with some matters." She held his arm and squeezed it as she bit her lower lip. "I hope everything is well. Our wedding will be set as soon as possible, and I want us to focus on it." "Hmm." Silas furrowed his brows, giving her a dry expression. His gaze went to his mother, who was then sitting on the couch and watching them with a smile. "I can’t remember agreeing to the marriage request." "Son, the Elders have already decided, and there’s nothing you can do about it," Laura responded. "We should be thankful that it’s Evelyn who they chose for you to marry. You used to have a great relationship with her. I’m sure the love you felt for her will rekindle." She then stood up and walked toward them. "I’m going to leave the two of you so you can talk. Make yourself at home, Eve." When his mom finally left, Evelyn glanced up at Silas. "Your mom is right," she said. Her hand caressed Silas’ cheek. "You see, I didn’t refuse the Elders’ request because I am confident that we’ll make a good couple, Silas." She tiptoed just enough for her to reach his ear and whispered, "And I miss those nights we shared so..." "We can have s*x without marrying each other. Perhaps the real reason why you want to marry me is that it will benefit your name, right, Evelyn?" Evelyn blinked several times. She didn’t expect such a blow from the Alpha. Her eyebrow rose, but seconds later, she offered him a sweet smile. "Don’t you think it’s the other way around?" she remarked, crossing her arms against her chest. "It will be beneficial for you to marry me because I am popular. I came from the second strongest pack, and our tandem can make you even more powerful. s*x will just be your perk once you marry me." Silas laughed at her argument. He had no idea what the hell Evelyn had taken before she came here. Could it be the drugs that she started to become delusional about? "You have no idea what you’re dealing with," he said warily. "We are not even mates." "Oh, come on! We don’t really need to be mates to marry each other, Silas." Silas nodded. "I already expected you to say that." "It’s already a done deal. I assure you we’ll get married before the next full moon. The Elders are discussing it right now as we speak." Evelyn smiled seductively at him. "In fact, a grand ball will happen by tomorrow evening to announce our engagement." "A grand ball?" His forehead creased. "Uh-huh! I’m sure it’s going to be fun. Isn’t it exciting?" Evelyn clasped her hands together, her eyes going dreamy. "Everyone will see us as a couple wrapped in power and confidence. The two most powerful packs will become allies and merge. I’m pretty sure it will be the talk of the town!" While Evelyn was very excited as she envisioned the success of their engagement, Silas didn’t like what he had just heard. How could his parents and the elders come up with such a nonsense idea without his knowledge? It was too obvious that they wanted him to be caught off guard and end up going to the flow to save his pride from any possible shame. His jaw clenched. He knew Evelyn could see the dark look on his face, but she was so cunning and driven that she just didn't care. "Don’t disappoint the Elders, Silas. You know they are capable of throwing you out of your position if you don’t comply with their demands." "Well, coming from someone who disappoints me the most." Silas wryly smiled at her. "In the end, a spoiled brat, Evelyn Lincoln, becomes their puppet." Evelyn's expression changed. She looked insulted. "What did you—" Silas didn’t let her finish and walked out of the room with his hands fisted firmly. Deep in his mind, his wolf, Ryker, was laughing—no, mocking him. ‘You know that you can prevent yourself from marrying a w***e like her,’ Ryker grunted in his thoughts. ‘Our second chance mate is the only key, Silas.’ "I know. You’ve been rubbing it in my face. I’m quite fed up with hearing it from you." Ryker laughed. ‘You see, there’s no other option. Even if there’s one, I’ll still make you choose our mate. We’re bound to claim her, anyway.’ "Since when did you become someone who sees what the future holds?" Silas mocked his wolf, making Ryker growl inside of him. As he walked to the main hallway of the White House, Klyde approached him with a look that wondered what happened to his conversation with Evelyn. "It didn’t turn out well, I see..." Klyde commented, based on Silas’ dark expression. "Tell Klaire to come to my office. I need her to do something for me," he told his Beta. "Klaire? Your twin sister?" "Is there any other Klaire in the pack?" He growled. "Of course, I’m referring to my twin sister, Klaire Jackson," he added, voice obviously pissed off.
