Chapter 9: Klaire Jackson

1887 Words
"Whoa! You are getting good at hunting animals." Her maid, Lisa, patted her shoulder after she knocked out a big bad jaguar lurking in the forest of their land. Her arms were on her hips as she caught her breath. "That jaguar had been a great nuisance. It destroyed most of the crops in the Omega community. It needed to die." The beautiful Klaire Jackson, the twin sister of the Alpha of the Shadows Beast Pack, whose eyes slowly turned amber from burning gold, her brown-colored hair flipping on its own because of the cold breeze, and her face screamed feistiness and power. She was the most beautiful and considered the most powerful she-wolf in the pack. She was actively volunteering to help the Omegas and became their voice to receive fair treatment from the leaders. She was the Alpha's kind twin sister who never turned anyone down and helped everyone she could. "You should get back to the mansion, Lisa." She looked at the sky that was turning dark gray, and as she sniffed the air, she already knew that a storm would be coming and pester the land for a couple of days. "It’s going to rain heavily. I need to bury this thing so its deadly smell won’t mix in the air." "And I will prepare a hot bath for you." Lisa winced and scratched her nose a bit. "You stink." Klaire laughed and nodded in response. Lisa bowed her head and went away. The maid came from the Omegas. Lisa’s parents abused her, and Klaire became her savior. Klaire took Lisa in with the intention of giving her a new life, and she had been teaching her how to read and write so that she could start going to school the following year. She practically sees Lisa as her younger sister. After burying the dead jaguar without a sweat, she offered its tomb a flower and then left the forest. The rain had started pouring when she reached the porch of her mansion, and just before she got inside, she smelled a familiar scent that made her turn around. "What brings the Beta here?" she asked curiously. The ever-so-sleek Klyde Montreal walked onto the porch, ran his fingers through his damp hair, and sighed before he spoke, "The Alpha wants to talk to you." "What? That’s new!" Klaire could not hide her amusement. They were fraternal twins born during the full moon. Still, Silas and Klaire were completely different in all ways. While she was engaging herself in outdoor and outreach activities, Silas was busy with internal affairs and could hardly visit her for some sibling talk. It was definitely surprising to know that he wanted to talk to her. "What about it, Klyde?" She tilted her head, still looking at the Beta. "Silas can hardly remember that he has a twin sister, so I’m curious about what’s going on with him." "I’m not in a position to talk." Klyde offered her an apologetic look. "But you’ll know once you visit him." Klaire took a deep breath, nodding. "Alright. You see, I look filthy with all this mud and blood on my body. I’ll take a bath and see the Alpha afterward." "Cool." Klyde's gaze dropped to her hands that were covered with blood. "You’ve killed a jaguar." She smirked. "Yes. I ripped its chest and tore its heart apart. Thanks to some gory films I watched, I think I became a monster too. Just like how the outsiders think of us." "We become monsters in front of monsters. That’s just fair. Anyway, I’ll see you in Silas’ office." "Sure," Klaire responded, and watched Klyde as he sprinted under the rain. "Looks like my twin brother is in trouble," she said and whistled, and entered the mansion to give herself a reward—a hot bath in the tub with some sweet wine. *** Silas was sipping on his wine as he stood watching the young pups through the window of his office. The sky was turning dark gray as an indication of a bad storm coming in, yet the pups continued to play tag from the near playground. A smile escaped his lips as he watched them playing happily, without any burden to suffer from. When he was a child, he never experienced playing outside. While children his age were engaged in physical games, having fun outside with all the dirt and dust, Silas was locked inside the study room, reading a lot of books about the history of their pack, how the werewolf government works, and everything he had to know about leading the pack. He was just a kid back then, who wanted to play like his sister did, yet his parents were so strict when it came to him, for he was the future Alpha. He had to say his childhood wasn’t that fun. It was filled with fear of getting the whip once he did not finish reading the entire book, not being able to memorize the law on time, and simply not being good enough. Now that he became a successful Alpha, he made certain that he led the pack well so that he could protect the young pups and avoid suffering as he had as a child. The door swung open, ripping his thoughts, and with the familiar sweet fragrance, like of a flower that bloomed in summer, he already knew that Klaire Jackson had arrived. "Hello, twin brother. Did you miss me?" Klaire was leaning on the door when he turned to her, giving him a ghost grin. Her twin sister looked stunning in a simple black racerback top and fitted jeans that highlighted her hourglass figure. She looked like a famous fashion icon if not for her brute personality sometimes. She walked towards him, and Silas opened his arm to give her a hug. "You’re making me purposely miss you by not coming into my office that often," Silas responded. Klaire chuckled as she hugged him tight and then pulled away. She went to his desk, kicked the swivel chair, and sat on the desk itself. "Your Beta told me you have something to talk about. I wonder what it is," she stated. Silas sipped on his wine glass and leaned his back against the wall. "Evelyn came here to visit. It seems that the Elders have decided to push through the wedding even if I didn’t agree on it." Klaire nodded. "Hmm, the Elders are persistent, huh?" "A pain in the ass." "Well, I agree. They are being backed up by our parents, so I guess you have to prepare for the worst." Silas’ lips curled into a smile. "That’s why I called for you; to prepare for the worst." Klaire’s forehead creased right away. She looked at her twin brother with utmost curiosity. "Have you finally decided to marry Evelyn?" He clicked his tongue, shaking his head. "No, I’m not going to marry a woman who’s only going to use me to boost her popularity. I have someone else to marry..." "You got me." Klaire stood up with crossed arms. "I love to support your defiance against our parents and the Elders. Who will be the bride s***h accomplice in crime?" Silas could not help but sigh. He hated the cheap rogue he held captive in his house. Actually, he hoped that somehow he would be able to convince Ryker to reject her since the girl did not, in any way, fit into the role as his Luna. But given the tight situation he was in, Silas had no other choice but to follow Ryker’s advice. He knew his wolf was taking advantage of the situation. Ryker was going nuts about having a second chance mate. They’d been fighting mentally because of that ginger head girl, and it seemed that his wolf was winning right now. "Have you heard about second chance mate?" he asked Klaire. His twin sister’s eyes widened, and it was followed by a gasp. "Don’t tell me..." she trailed off, and Silas nodded. "Oh my goddess! Where is the lucky wolf?" "In my house, and I’m holding her captive." He took a deep breath and looked at his twin sister intently. "I need you to help me prepare the girl for the grand ball. I’ll announce that we’re mates to stop the engagement." *** In the bedroom... Cresia was pacing back and forth, trying to think of a good escape plan. She couldn't stop cursing in frustration, picturing the hellish life she'd have in the hands of that beast, Alpha. Biting her nails, she glanced at the locked door and shook her head. "Not a good option." She turned around and saw the large window. She walked over to the window and opened it, only to see raging waves crashing against the cliff. Cresia swallowed so hard. "No, I will die if I jump off here." Huffing, she then went to the bathroom, trying to look for anything that could give her a slight hope, but to no avail. She ended up pulling her hair, and screamed in madness. There was no other way out than the freaking door, which was locked from the outside. It seemed to her that the beast had really planned to lock her in this specific room, as there was no other way she could leave the place! She crawled onto the bed, biting her lower lip. Tears wanted to escape from her eyes, but she shed nothing as she knew it wouldn’t help her in the situation. "Should I just kill myself?" she asked herself and then looked around, her eyes feasting on all the expensive furniture inside a comfortable bedroom. "Or should I just take advantage of him?" Cresia had principles in life, even if her past wasn't good. As much as possible, she wouldn’t want to associate herself with someone who had killed numerous lives, specifically the Alpha of the most feared pack. But, what choice did she have at this point? She didn’t even have a place she could call home, for she was practically a rogue. "That stings..." she whispered, and lowered her head. Her mind was filled with a million thoughts when she heard footsteps coming from outside. Seconds later, the door finally opened and a stunning woman emerged from it, looking around until her set of amber-colored eyes found her. "There you are, lucky wolf," the woman said in awe. Cresia looked at her in confusion. Who was this girl? "W-Who are you?" she asked. The woman tilted her head, still looking at her as if she was trying to memorize every feature of her face, as if she wanted to get into her head and read all the thoughts that worried her to the bones. "I’ve never seen a she-wolf who has a ginger head. You look... totally amazing," the woman praised her. "Who are you?" she repeated, this time with anger dripping off her words. "My name is Klaire Jackson, ginger head." The woman, whose name was Klaire, walked towards the bed. "I’m your mate’s twin sister, and you must come with me right now." "W-Where are you taking me?" "Somewhere not as suffocating as this room. Treat this as your escape." Klaire offered her hand for her to hold. "Join me, ginger head..."
