Cresia could only stare at Klaire’s hand with a bit of excitement building through her chest. She would admit that the woman’s offer of “escape” had caught her attention. It was like an answer prayer for her as she’d been so stressed, trying to find a good way to escape the house a while ago.
“So what do you think? Are you going to trust me or not?”
She glanced up and saw the smirk on Klaire’s lips; the way her amber eyes glowed in an evident mischief made Cresia feel hesitant though. Her eyes, even though their color was completely different from her beastly brother, could not be trustworthy. Klaire glanced at her the same way Silas did when he first caught her; pure of mischief and totally dangerous.
“What’s the catch?” Cresia asked in her firm, doubtful voice.
“Silas did not tell me you are into negotiations.”
“I’m trying to be cautious,” she said. “After all, I am here in the land that is full of primordial werewolves.” A land full of monsters who killed countless of innocent lives, her mind screamed but she was unable to voice it out, seeing how the woman suddenly raised an eyebrow as if to warn her not to say anything she would never like.
“You sound like you have been brainwashed too.” Klaire laughed softly, shaking her head a bit. “So do you want to go outside of this fancy cell or no?”
Cresia’s lips formed a thin line. She was still hesitant about giving her trust to this woman, yet she did not want to stay in this house. Thinking that she could use the opportunity to escape the land, she faked a sigh of defeat and nodded her head, so Klaire would not be suspicious of her.
“Fine. I’ll go with you,” she said in the end.
Klaire grinned, still staring at her in amusement, which made Cresia felt uncomfortable.
“Interesting,” the woman murmured and sighed afterward. “I can’t mind link you. Silas is right. You are wolf-less.”
Cresia looked at her in defensive expression. “Stop rubbing it in my face, can you?”
Klaire raised both of her hands as an indication of her surrender, and then let out a laugh again. Cresia was offended. She had enough of insult from the woman’s brother. It was unbearable to hear the sad truth that she was wolf-less—a constant reminder of the reason why she had to go through such sufferings from her pack.
“I apologize. I do not mean to hurt your feelings. I’m just amazed to encounter someone as unique as you are,” Klaire said carefully. “Anyway, get up and we are going somewhere to have a bit of fun. I know this place bores you to death.”
Cresia did not say any word and just did what she was told. She followed Klaire as the she-wolf left the room. Her eyes could not help but feast on the insides of the entire mansion as they walked downstairs.
High ceiling, a chandelier that seemed to become the avenue of the world’s precious diamonds, breathtaking interior designs with a wall painted with complimenting colors of white and gray, fancy paintings and furniture, walls engraved with old yet entrancing designs, and all that expensive things that could impress anyone.
She could hardly believe that the beast Alpha was living in a fancy mansion that she bet cost a fortune. All this time, she thought that the primordial wolves such as the Shadow Beast Pack lived in the mountains of North America, particularly inside the caves, like those of wild animals that were only waiting to attack some lost prey.
However, the expensive mansion of the beast Alpha slapped her so hard. She could even admit that his house was thrice bigger than Colton’s back in the Ferocious Manes!
“Is there anyone living here aside from your brother?”
“No.” Klare spun on her. “Oh, he used to live with his late wife, of course.”
“Late wife?” Cresia’s forehead creased. “He was married?”
Klaire nodded in response, proceeding to the main door. “Yes. Cattleya was his mate. She was our Luna but she died years ago due to a fatal disease, and now he lives alone.”
Cresia was confused right there. If the beast already had a mate, then why did he insist that they were mates?
“You are his second chance mate, if that what’s confuse you,” Klaire added, opening the main door.
“How is that possible?”
“Well, we, primordial werewolves, can have second chance mates. It is said that our lineage was special. The blood running through our veins was kissed by the Moon Goddess herself, and so we are deemed unique, way more powerful and stronger than regular werewolves.”
“Far more blessed...” Cresia mumbled, shaking her head.
So, the Moon Goddess had played unfairly once again. How could She make a bloodline special, and others just mediocre? Was the Moon Goddess romanticized war of powers that’s why She created the werewolves with utmost difference and hierarchy?
“You can say that,” Klaire uttered and looked back at her. “And you, which pack did you come from?”
“Ferocious Manes,” Cresia answered dryly.
“Ferocious Manes...” Klaire mumbled as if it was the first time she heard the name of the pack.
Cresia fought the urge to roll her eyes. This sister of the beast could really be offensive unintentionally. Instead of making a fuss out of it, Cresia focused her attention outside of the mansion.
The place was surrounded by trees... lots of trees and all other plants and a lake filled with waterlilies on the side of the mansion. It appeared that the Alpha’s mansion was situated in the middle of the forest, as Cresia did not see any neighbours anywhere.
“Yeah, he lives alone in the vast forest.”
Is he some kind of a freak? Cresia thought. How could someone live alone in such a dull forest?
“We have to get going. Layla might close her shop early today.”
Cresia looked back at Klaire. “Where exactly are you going to take me?”
“In the mall.” Klaire smiled at her. “We’re going to shop some things you need, ginger head.”
Trying not to be obvious with her plan to escape, Cresia just nodded her head. She still didn’t know how she could escape from a primordial she-wolf, or if she’d be successful in doing so.
However, she must try at all cost.
“Follow me. I brought my Jeep for us to ride.”
Cresia was silent the whole time she followed Klaire as they walked to an unfamiliar trail. They were almost near the Jeep when she heard a loud growl behind her.
She spun around only to find a big jaguar that was around to attack her. Cresia screamed in fear, and instantly shielded herself with her own arms, anticipating the end of her life. But her skin wasn’t peeled by the jaguar’s fangs.
When she glanced up, she could only step back when she realized that Klaire killed the jaguar by strangling it, her sharp claws dug deeper on its neck and making all the blood come out of it.
“I’m sorry. We have a lot of unwanted animals here,” Klaire explained.
“W-What did you...” Cresia could not finish her words as her gut suddenly twisted.
She suddenly felt sick, and turned her gaze, trying to control herself from vomiting.
A loud noise of something being thrown away was the next thing she heard, and it was followed by a loud sigh.
“f**k, I just took a bath,” Klaire uttered.
Swallowing hard, she looked at the she-wolf again. Her heart was beating faster because she felt the fear crawling over her skin.
Even his sister is strong enough to strangle a big jaguar. Is it really possible to outsmart her? Cresia could not help but worried about escaping the beast’s sister.
