Chapter 7: They want fun, I’ll give it to them

"You’re mine, Cres... mine alone," Colton whispered to her ear before he thrust into her. Cresia cried beneath him. In her mind, a lot of thoughts were whirling, making her want to turn away from the Moon Goddess for making her life miserable; for not helping her even once, and probably laughing while looking over at her from the Moon. Naked and afraid, she screamed as her good-for-nothing brother r***d her without any remorse. She blinked awake, sucking in a long, deep breath and swallowing the lump in her throat. A nightmare, she thought, but it made her feel a sting of pain inside her chest. Cresia was not wrong when she first thought that Colton’s attempt to r**e her would haunt her forever. It just started, and it creeped her to the bones as the vivid memory of his disgustful act repeatedly played in her mind as if it was a goddamn traumatizing movie. Even though unwanted tears stung her eyes, she sat upright and noticed that she wasn’t inside the cell anymore. Her gaze feasted on the interior of the room where she was. It was fascinating in its old Spanish look; a mixture of earthy-colored furniture with a huge oval window next to the queen-sized bed where she could see the tall pines and birds flying freely, which somehow relaxed her body. "Where am I?" she asked suddenly. Her curious eyes dropped to her body. She gasped when she noticed she was wearing a huge white t-shirt that reached her legs. What surprised her the most was the gauze on her arms and legs, as if someone had been kind enough to treat her bruises and wounds. She was still drowning in confusion when the door swung open, and the familiar man wearing thick eyeglasses emerged from it, holding a tray with delicious food and milk on it. Her mouth ran dry and her stomach growled instantly. Since when was the last time she had a good meal? She could not remember as it was too rare to happen! "How do you feel?" the man asked, his tone casual, as he walked near the side table where he put down the tray. "The pack doctor said you have to eat a lot since your body has been deprived of food for so long." "Who the hell are you and why are you helping me?" Cresia wondered. "My name is Klyde. I’m the Beta of the pack." "Another monster..." she whispered as she crawled on the other side of the bed. She was more cautious and wary of the Beta of the most hateful pack. "What do you want from me?" Klyde forced a laugh, trying to hide how insulted he was. "First off, I am not a monster. Second, the Alpha wants you to be locked up here in his house instead of in that rotten cell, so consider yourself lucky. Your breakfast is served, so eat and don’t do anything stupid," he said before he turned away, walking back to the door so he could proceed to his other task for the day. "W-Wait!" "Yes?" Klyde looked back at her. A shiver ran down her spine. She wanted to ask him to help her escape the beast. A little part of her was so sure that she should trust him. But no words came out of her mouth. "Don’t try to escape," Klyde said in a cold tone. "You’re safer here." "Safe knowing a beast is holding me captive?" "I’m not surprised that a regular werewolf like you has been brainwashed by a f*****g myth circulating for a decade." He grinned. "You got to stop addressing him as a beast if you want to stay alive." "I thought you were different," Cresia scoffed upon hearing threatening words from another primordial wolf. "You can tell your Alpha that whatever he does, I’m not going to accept him as my mate!" "Sure, I’ll pass your words." Klyde shrugged and then exited the room. Cresia could only scream in frustration. She got off the bed and ran toward the door, only to find it locked from the outside. "Shit...." She banged it once and screamed all over again. *** The next day was a blur for Silas. Having had no sleep the whole night because of the endless mental fight he had with his wolf, Ryker, the least thing he wanted to do for the day was to stay in trouble. Massaging his forehead as he sat on his swivel chair, the knowledge that he had a second chance, which he felt uninterested in, made him preoccupied with all the unwanted possibilities that could happen. He would not deny that the rogue he found was beautiful, a bit slim, but suited her best and most strong-willed. However, a rogue like her, who had no wolf, would not get the approval of his parents and elders. Being mates wasn’t enough, and even if it was, he couldn’t force himself to marry someone who he wasn’t connected with. His thoughts were ripped out when he smelled the familiar scent of Klyde, who then entered his offer after a few seconds. "Your new girl is awake," Klyde remarked, as if he would be interested in knowing that the little rogue had gained consciousness. "She said to tell you that she’s not going to accept you as her mate." Silas fought the urge to roll his eyes at what he heard. What a stubborn woman! As if he wanted to accept her as his mate. If not for Ryker, he would have rejected her immediately. He wasn’t feeling the mate bond, anyway. So he’d never experience the devastation of losing a mate all over again. "Have you come up with a plan?" "Maybe I’ll keep her for a few nights," Silas answered as he leaned his back against his chair and continued to massage his forehead. "And then what?" "I’ll try to convince Ryker to let her go." Klyde clicked his tongue, which drew his attention. He looked at him, who was now giving him a disappointed look. "You don’t want to marry your ex-girlfriend, and don’t want your second chance mate, either." "And what do you mean? You want me to choose between the two?" He scoffed. "I don’t want anyone if it isn’t Cattleya." "She died long ago," Klyde said with a straight face. "What really matters are those who are still alive." His palm twitched. He definitely didn’t like his tone. Cattleya didn’t wish to die. Their marriage was perfect if not for the fatal disease that weakened her. She was an alpha female, a smart and brave woman who made his world colorful and lively. So for Klyde to disrespect her name was unacceptable. "You better not say anything bad about my late wife, Klyde. I swear you won’t like to go that route," he warned. Klyde sighed and sat down on the coach across from Silas’ desk. "Alright, I apologize. But man, have at least second thoughts and make the right decision. It’s not just about you; it’s about the pack reputation." "Our reputation is fine." "But your parents and the elders think otherwise," Klyde responded. "Come on, Silas. Think about it first." Silas’ lips formed a thin line. He’d never considered any option other than being alone. He was fine without the Luna. The pack was just fine with having just an Alpha. It had been like that for years, and would remain the same for the next few. A knock on the door got their attention. "Come in," he said. His father’s secretary entered his office, which made him furrow his brows. "What brings a bear shifter here?" Silas tilted his head. When he was a child, he kept questioning his father as to why he hired a bear shifter as his secretary. It was only when he came of age that he realized that his old man did that to secure everything he had in mind. Of course, no one would be able to neither read nor mind link a bear shifter. It was a smart move that pissed Silas off. "The former Alpha wants to inform you that the daughter of the Silver Crest Pack is in the White House to discuss the marriage deal with you. They expect you to come within less than an hour, Alpha Silas." Klyde whistled as he crossed his legs, watching Silas in amusement. Silas gritted his teeth at the knowledge that Evelyn had come all the way here, dreaming that she’d get to marry him. His parents really went overboard, even if he made himself clear that he was not going to remarry. Anger went through him. Seconds later, he turned to his Beta. "You want me to choose, right?" "Definitely...." "Fine, I will," he said, standing up and gazing over at the bear shifter. "I will talk to Evelyn then." Klyde's face brightened as he realized Silas had made the correct decision. Marrying the daughter of the Silver Crest Pack had always been the right choice, and he was glad that the Alpha reconsidered it. He stood up, ready to follow Silas. "I’m stoked you made a decision so fast," he said. Silas smirked darkly. "They want fun, I’ll give it to them...."
